The white tiger is a rare bengal tiger that has a double recessive allele in its genetic code that produces its distinctive white coat. The common name is white tiger because of its coloration, however it is in the same subspecies as the bengal tiger. The scientific name is Panthera tigris tigris. The genus Panthera includes four species of animals, the tiger, the lion, jaguar, and the leopard, all of which have the ability to roar. The white tigers’s full classification is as follows: Domain: Eukarya; Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Mammalia; Order: Carnivora; Family: Felidae; Genus: Panthera; Species: tigris; Subspecies: tigris. Unfortunately today this rare and unique tiger is no longer found in the wild. They are not albinos and they have some pigment that creates their fur’s color and some white tiger’s fur has a orange tint. They have black or brown stripes that run vertically along their body, this pattern is unique to the tiger species and to each individual tiger. Tiger stripes are like human fingerprints, no two are alike. In addition to their white fur, they also have blue eyes instead of green or yellow. The white tiger is between 6.8 feet and 11 feet long and weighs between 300 pounds and 660 pounds. They have large powerful jaws with canine teeth about 3 inches long with sharp cutting edges. They also have large paws with long retractable claws and a strong muscular tail that is approximately 1 meter in length. The white tigers have muscular legs that allow them to move quickly over short distances. They can reach speeds of up to 60 mph and can leap up to 5 meters .
