Many children can related to Grace’s feelings. Many children have a favorite item that they do not want to loose it, and they understand how sad for them if they loose it. Thus, children can compare their life with the story which can promote development of empathy (Myers, 2012). The plot of the story brings out Grace's emotions, in which sadness, disappointment, desperation, regret, helplessness, love, and joy and children can relate to the incident and those feelings. "When child reader recognize something in a story that is similar to their own feelings or thoughts, they realize they are not alone" (Temple, Martinez, & Yokota, 2015, p. 229).
The story, White Socks, is a great choice for storytelling because it has a happy-ending that children love. Children love the happy-ending that a main character will be rewarded somehow because it brings hope to an audience, and they want to believe that a good thing will happen to them too (Temple, Martinez, & Yokota, 2015). Grace finds White Socks at the end which brings joy and happiness to an
