Cartilaginous fishes provide a notable example of successful evolutionary perseverance with a fossil record extending to at least the Lower Devonian over 400 million years ago (8). Carcharodon carcharias, also known as White Pointer, White Death, or more commonly, White Shark, is one of the greatest predators in the world among marine life. They are usually found in tropical areas but research has been conducted on these sharks from the Northwest Atlantic to Southern Africa to North East near the Hudson canyon. The average size of a White Shark is 6.4 meters and they weigh on average, 2268 kg.
Temperature greatly affects white sharks metabolism, hunting fields, living distribution and mating habits. Unlike some marine life, white sharks are warm blooded (endotherms) and can regulate their body temperature. The blood vessels are aligned in the shark that it can pass the cold blood located near the exterior of its body the warmer parts of its body to insure that its important organs stay warm. This allows the shark to keep its internal body temperature about 14 oC warmer than the water it is in. Being warm blooded allows white sharks to hunt in cooler parts of the ocean than other sharks giving them an evolutionary advantage. However, this also

This usually means they will be found in areas with moderate water temperatures; occasionally in tropical waters because they are sensitive to higher temperatures (2). Despite popular belief, females also migrate, although it is usually at a different time than the males. Both male and female white sharks are capable of transoceanic migrations and indicate that the sex biased dispersal of these species is not necessarily based on differences in the proclivity of either sex to undertake transoceanic migrations but is probably attributable to differences in how these migrants become reproductively integrated into the population

for example, “Sandbar Sharks move between the northeastern United States and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, a distance of about 5,600 km (3,480 miles) (Helfman)”. Sharks will either cross oceans for migration or they will stick to the coast, but either way they can travel thousands of miles for migration. Vertical migrators do not travel great distances along coasts or across oceans like horizontal migrators, but more impressively, these migrators are experiencing a drastic change in temperatures and pressure. Vertical migrators dive down and resurface over hundreds of meters within a short amount of time, for example, “White Sharks may move up and down between the surface and 200-m (660-ft) depths as often as 96 times in 24 hours (Helfman).”…
