In many cases people of white colour are respected as they exhibit these cultural elements however the love for the culture may not exist. There is a difference between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation which is not often see through the media or modelled by celebrities that are not of colour. I will argue that cultural appropriation substantiates white privilege because of the freedom Caucasians have to set trends by expressing elements of marginalized cultures, while continually disrespecting people of color. This is exhibited through modern pop culture and the different cultural styles showcased by celebrities.

People become famous by gaining respect and popularity of an audience as they show their talents. There are many instances where celebrities are found culturally appropriating. On numerous occasions when an artist or actor of white background is culturally appropriating it is often considered acceptable, however, when a celebrity of colour uses the same kind of thing, they are criticized. An example of this is Kylie Jenner who is an 18 year old white teenager. When she is seen styling cornrows people often label her as ‘chic’ as opposed to Ciara who is a black R&B singer, and is marked as ‘ghetto’ It’s obvious that white privilege is present and exemplified by cultural appropriation in society when people commonly use the phrase “White girls do it better.”. Jenner also gained fame when the “Kylie lip challenge” was introduced. Jenner influenced many people to take part in a challenge to inflate their lips so they looked like hers. Big lips are a characteristic of African American individuals and was spread around as a trend when it was introduced by Jenner. Another popular example is Iggy Azalea who inhabits the black culture by using the language, the fashion and the style when she creates and performs her music.
