Here today if you match the description of an Anglo-Saxon person, you are most likely to be placed on a pedestal. Two college athletes’ ages around the same age committed the same crime of raping an unconscious female at a university. The only difference is that the white male served a 6 months sentence and the black male served a 5 year sentence. Both students committed the same crime, had no prior recorders, but was portrayed to the public differently. In 2008 about 13% of our population was black while this being true, 38% of sentenced inmates were also black. How does 1/6 of our general population make of over 1/3 of our inmates here in the United States? Easy, because of white privilege. Black males were convicted 6 times more than white males. This proves that white privilege has a role in about every aspect you can think of. Certain websites like urbandictionary.com does not want you to believe that white privilege exist but if you step outside, turn on your TV, or even compare statistics between different races you can see that white privilege is alive today. White privilege is something you cannot blame on any one individual but society as a whole. What can we do about white privilege you might ask, treat everyone as equals and believing that there is truly only one race in this world the human race. By doing this you are not separating you from your peers just because everybody doesn’t look like

According to Tim Wise, white privilege is being able to benefit just for your skin tone. Wise uses multiple examples of how being white is a privilege. For example, Tim Wise brings up the subject of drugs. He explains how many white people are actually more likely to be found with drugs, however many brown and black people are being pulled over instead. He discusses the subject of how if police were fighting against crime they would be more likely to pull over white people however they do not.…

White privilege is an inherent advantage, that is unearned and unacknowledged, yet practiced by whites regularly. White people typically earn more money and have more assets than other races. Fortunate individuals continue to fail to realize there is still inequality. They usually rise well above the poverty line, and live relatively economically sound lives. This is true for Brock Turner, a white male former swimmer and student at Stanford University.…

White individuals, she asserts, might believe people of color live under a disadvantage in our society, but do not see themselves as privileged because of their whiteness. The author lists twenty-six ways she sees white people as having privileges that people of color do not enjoy. These differences range from white individuals able to shop without being followed or harassed, to people of color struggling to be accepted as “qualified” in their job if the position is an affirmative action one. She allows the word “privilege” is misleading, since when confronted with the term, most white people think of “privilege” as something like a favored state conferred by birth or luck. Ms .McIntosh…

As I sat in philosophy class, I listened to the discussion about “The Color of Fear” (documentary). Many people sat quiet in efforts to keep arguments and insults at bay. However, one female stated something that made my thoughts initiate. She loudly and proudly stated, “I’m a white female, as white as they come, and I do not have white privilege”. She finished her statement with a further explanation, “I had a rough life growing up and I never got everything I wanted; therefore, I’m sure I was not privileged by my race”.…

People often think of race as something that is ethnic and exotic, something that only people of color possess. However, whiteness is just as much of a race as any other, yet we continue to ignore the fact that being white is conceptually the same as being black, Hispanic, Muslim, or what have you. This idea is called white privilege and it is based on the social construct that gives white people an advantage, socially, over all other races. Whiteness is constructed in such a way that it is often seen as a default and the norm and is subsequently, basically invisible. Yet, if we can’t see it, then how do we know how whiteness exists as a race or how operates and affects people?…

Throughout Ta-Nehishi Coates’ text Between the World and Me and Tim Wise’s book White Like Me, the concept of white privilege is discussed heavily as the source of racial tension. White privilege can be defined as the advantages white people have over people of color in all aspects, including economic, social, and political. Evidence from history proves the treatment black people receive from law enforcement differentiates from white people, and this is still an issue today despite the equality all races are supposed to have. Looking back at America’s past, policy brutality is present and abundant. Before the Civil Rights Movement, African Americans did not even have the same rights as whites because whites were the “superior race.”…

With white privilege comes a certain power. Wielding white privilege in your fist gives you the ability to argue that historically black colleges are racist, to argue that you suffer as much as the next person of color does, to scream and rally “All Lives Matter,” all the while denying you have this sort of power. Many white people do not know of its power, they do not know of its strength. However, they possess and use this strength in ways which they do not even realize. Without the acknowledgement of this power, people of color are left powerless and will continue to be abused by this system of bias.…

White privilege is ignored by whites in society because we live in a nation of white dominance. Whites most often ignore the fact that blacks and other minorities do not enjoy these advantages. McIntosh defines white privilege as the many advantages white people enjoy, often seen as normal, and are largely unnoticed by society. Peggy McIntosh describes white privilege as “an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks. ”(Calihealth).…
