Kassie was the little girl who always had something silly to say and was ornery as ever. She would make friends with just about anyone and could always find a smile in someone. You would find her going to church with her family on Sundays and in school learning on the weekdays. After school ended for the day she would play outside until she got called in for dinner. Her parents would make her finish all her dinner before she could go to bed and then her next day would start all over again. Although, I have grown up entirely, those events and memories that I have as a child have shaped me who I am today. In America, we adopt our culture from the generation before us and then what is important enough in our society will pass on to the next …show more content…
In America, there is an epidemic that is known of being “White Privileged”. People have all kinds of perks in America as being white, some included are when you get cut by a Band-Aid and the nurse will most likely have a Band-Aid that matched the skin color or when you go to a hotel they will most likely have the shampoo and conditioner for white textured hair. The general concept as stated in “White Privilege: The Invisible Advantages & Apparent Disadvantages” says that white privilege is "an invisible package of unearned assets" that someone "can count on cashing in each day". However, most people end up taking their privileges for granted. It also goes beyond that and affects their decisions and outlook on life from the certain experiences they have …show more content…
Income and the ability of power and prestige are looked upon and define us as an individual. If someone does not have a good education it would be harder for him or her to find a good paying job. An individual can work up or down the scale of social class, as our wages designate what class we are in. I think that in the future I might have some power from having money, but that is because I want to be as well off as my parents. I have looked up to my parents my entire life and I want to be able to give the same opportunities to my children one day. If I didn’t live in America I think it would definitely affect my power and privilege. First the only language I know is English so that would defiantly affect my classification as being successful. Second some places are more expensive to live in for example Italy and Sweden. If I was born into another country I think is would be a different way of adapting to the culture and society and it would be different than the culture of America. There would be different cultural values, traditions, and circumstances that would affect how I view things and who I become. For example if I was born in Sierra Leone I would have been affected by the Civil War and I could have been one of those children that got taken in as apart of the RUF or I could have been or known someone in my family that has been murdered or delimbed y the RUF. If I was born in Wales I would have been excluded

I personally never really thought that white privilege was something that was true but after reading the story called, White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack I have a better understanding of what some of these privileges are and how they could make some people feel who do not have them. I also started to realize that these privileges not only caused emotional distress for the people but also prevented them from possibly being successful. An example of a privilege that may effect people who don't have it is one that causes people from the wealthier area to receive more money for their school compared to those who don't live in these wealthy areas. This dose not only effect the student by effecting the quality of their education but also by making it harder for these students to get a quality education where they can get out from under the poverty…

“White” Like Me At the heart of American culture is the concept of racism; a continuous cycle perpetuated through years of injustice by slavery, violence, segregation, and hatred. Much like the symbolic “tree of life”, racism’s roots extend deep into the earth, drawing sustenance from each member of society. Yet in that survival tactic, it unconsciously steals a little more from one side—this is white privilege. “White privilege” is a mere social construction by which the dominant white group justifies their advantages and higher quality of life through diminution of people of color. To be a member of the white race, it is easy to overlook subtle inequalities—such as the wealth gap, career opportunities, education, etc.…

To acknowledge a superior advantage is the first step to changing the world. Majority of white people seem surprised at the fact that there is still a divide between races in modern times. They’ve taken the pretentious viewpoint of claiming that they don’t ‘see race’ that they just ‘the person’ and while that might be what most activists are striving towards in modern times, all that really means is that they are benefiting from the privileges of being white. It is almost impossible to relate to someone who is struggling because of their skin color when the privileged have never had to face such unfair and unjust effects because of the way they look. I am white, I am female, and those are facts.…

Privilege and white privilege is there a difference? The text states that White privilege is “a set of advantaged and or immunities that white people benefit from on a daily basis beyond those common to all others” (Avakian, 2003). As I searched privilege and read different terms I understood it as, a special right like an advantage, something granted to a particular person or group of people. Though there is a difference between the two I can see why the term Privilege is attached to “White”. White people are often unaware of the position they are placed in by society.…

White Advantage In the article “White privilege to a broke white person” by Gina Crosley-Corcoran she argues how being white in society did not make her advantaged in society by stating her own personal experiences. White privilege is recognized amongst white individuals and many have been taught not to recognize it for what it is but not every white person gets the same glamorous lifestyle. Being white is just a color that does not define the future for someone. White privilege is viewed in different perspectives amongst different backgrounds.…

Privilege is a right, advantage, favor, or immunity specially granted to a specific individual, group, or class, and withheld from certain or all others. White privilege is a form of social privileges that solely benefits white people and excludes people of color. For some apparent reason many people become blinded, ignorant, and oblivious when white privilege becomes the topic of conversation. “White Privilege is the other side of racism” (Rothenberg, 53). Although we live in a country where we are constantly told all men are created equal, there is an overt contradiction to the ideology simply because of conspicuous white privileges.…

After some decisions made in recent court cases, society brings about the term “white privilege” quite often. Some in society say that white people may get less harsh punishments for the same criminal act than a person of color. Others in society say that their claims are untrue, leaving the question about whether white privilege is or isn’t an actuality. In the article “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Backpack” published online at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, author Peggy McIntosh claims that white people do not acknowledge white privilege because they are taught not to notice it.…

White privilege is ignored by whites in society because we live in a nation of white dominance. Whites most often ignore the fact that blacks and other minorities do not enjoy these advantages. McIntosh defines white privilege as the many advantages white people enjoy, often seen as normal, and are largely unnoticed by society. Peggy McIntosh describes white privilege as “an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks. ”(Calihealth).…
