When hearing the title of the song "White Lightning" it can refer to along the lines of a storm, something fast or moonshine. The two words, White Lightning, actually has a colossal meaning. Jaren Johnston, the songwriter, smashed the words, how fast a man can fall in love with a women, into the words of white lightning. Jaren Johnston used lots of metaphors to describe how fast a man fell in love. In particular the metaphor "she stole my heart," in deeper meaning he's referring to; he can't feel the same love for another person. The song writer can clearly get his point of the song down into the lyrics. When listening to the song a bit longer he states the words "faster than a tree dies in the dessert" and "Alabama moonshine intoxicating this old heart.” The first lyrics he explains how a tree in the dessert doesn’t last very long just like white lightning. On the other hand “Alabama moonshine intoxicating this old heart,” goes with the reference to the memory of the first time he saw her keeps overflowing his heart. the song writer mentions Elvis Presley and number three who is Dale Earnhardt. When he sings, "Faster than Elvis could shake rattle 'nd roll," Jaren Johnston goes back to date when Elvis Presley wrote that song. "Faster than number three breaking every record" refers to Dale Earnhardt. Dale won seven Winston cups and had seventy-six career wins by the time he died. Two Chunk Paragraph answering the Essential Question: Understanding the connotative meaning of figurative language helps the reader to determine the theme of a literary work such as the narrative poem, “The Highwayman,” by Alfred Noyes. The theme of the story is true love is worth fighting for. This was illustrated with figurative language when the Highwayman declared, “I’ll come to the by moonlight, though hell should bar the way” (Noyes 5). This proves that this saying is true, the redcoats do not like him, because he steals money, and gives to the poor. The theme is revealed again when Bess, the landlord’s daughter determined to save her lover’s life.…

Erik Larson is argued to have a difficult time creating realistic details for a book about a time period he could only research about. In The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses brilliantly constructed figurative language in order to insightfully display his interpretation of the story (entailing the events of the Chicago World Fair and the serial killer H. H. Holmes) and realistically and informatively describe the details of people, places, and events in the novel. The first figurative language tool that will be addressed is the simile. The first simile that is used to describe one of the main "characters" of Larson’s novel, Holmes, is “As he moved through the station, the glances of young women fell around him like wind-blown petals”…

Abortion has been a very controversial issue for a very long time, and people have very different opinions about this issue, and the artist has expressed their opinion on this issue from the use of music, and art. For example, a song by Tim Mcgraw and Bright Eyes shows how abortion affects everyone involved after it happens. A piece of artwork by Frida Kahlo shows the perspective of women after having an abortion. In all of the artwork in music the people involved always regret having the abortion, and the people that are pro-choice do not understand how the people feel after having an abortion because they have not experienced it themselves. This is a civil rights issue because people are either pro life or pro choice, and both sides make…

For my first example of figurative language there is "He was a stocky man with big shoulders, the neck of a bull, thick lips, and curly hair"(Wiesel 47). This is a metaphor because it is helping it is saying that his neck is so big that it represents a bulls and it is not using like or as. It affects the reader because it helps them realize that he is a strong man and he was so big that his neck was as think and strong as a bull. The second figurative language is the "Who had a face not unlike the face of death"(Wiesel 51). This is a Hyperbole because it is an extreme exaggeration because he doesn't really have the face of death but they say that because he is so scary or intimidating.…

Literature Paper Poetry can be very complex and even though it can vary and use different techniques to get the point across it may come to the same conclusion and meaning, and can also be interpreted differently. Poetry is meant to be understood in the reader's own way. Why I Hate Raisins, Hand-Me-Down Halloween, and My Brother at 3AM are about the struggles of living in the reservation, but use different style, syntax and tone. Why I Hate Raisins is a poem about the struggles of not having enough food or not being able to afford food other than what they received. It is written in subtly and sounds simple, so the true meaning behind the poem is not really understood until the end, and has a deeper meaning.…
