White Girl Monologue

My bare feet smoldered into the grass, I reached out and touched the wispy white cloud in front of me. My hands melted into it as if it were a pillow, a large pillow with never-ending fluff. I clawed the cloud with my hand and threw myself into the soft heap and I drown myself in.
“Welcome abroad to the Destiny’s Bounty, please stay seated the entire time and enjoy the ride.” said a woman as if she were singing a lullaby. My eyes wandered towards every horizon as I started to ascend upward. Everything around me was foggy, the type of foggy that makes you want to throw out your hand and catch it. It was also a consuming white, one that can make your eyes see everything brighter for days. “There’s nothing here.” I said as I looked up into the sky in search for something to come.

After a few hours, I finally spotted something, a smiling family, a mother, a father, and two children, a boy and a girl. Following them was a crowd of different things, I saw a young people holding diplomas and happy couples. I saw doctors, teachers, scientists, CEOs, actors, musicians and many more. I saw people spending money, buying cars, houses, and various other expensive objects. Most of all, I saw everyone smiling and laughing. I was amazed, and my head was constantly turning to see all the people of every race and culture, and it was absolutely beautiful. “This is where people imagine the dreams they want to see come true. Most people can reach this level of imagination.” The woman

I saw Sheila Brown today. She continued to exhibit paranoia and delusion. Despite her acknowledgement of ‘feeling slightly out of whack’, she was adamant that her suspicion on both of your intentions and manners were real and unrelated to her psychotic symptom. She was specifically fixated on Kimberly’s ways of talking. What concern me the most is her statement about not being hesitate to fight if anyone, including the staff, continues to disrespect her.…

Media has capitalized on the white power structure capitalized on white people being superior in certain characteristics, traits, and attributes of other racial backgrounds. Moreover, the effect comes into play is that whiteness becomes hidden as an issue within society. So “by viewing whiteness as a rhetorical construction we avoid searching for any essential nature to witness”(Nakayama & Krizek, 1995). So whiteness is a strategic rhetoric that positions those who are included in a particular way. Subsequncly, this is due to how communication is impoverished within cultures.…

Growing Up White: How living in a white neighborhood formed me I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois. It is a village of 75,000 people located forty-five minutes north west of Chicago. Race was never an issue in my life. I never felt racially profiled, and never been judged for being white. Race is not something I am confident in talking about, and is not something I am comfortable discussing.…

    White Talk Summary

    • 1527 Words
    • 7 Pages

In the article, White Talk, by Alice McIntyre, there is an overarching theme of racism stemming from the idea of white talk. There are several stories, accompanied by reflection from the author supporting the idea that white people try to throw blame on others or distance themselves from the belief of racism. As the text suggests, it is one of the greatest fears of a white person to be labeled as racist and, we as a race, like to come up with excuses to explain that we are exempt from this term and we could never be racist based on certain actions that we perform. White talk is, as defined in the article, “...talk that serves to insulate white people from examining their/our individual and collective roles in the perpetuation of racism.” Briefly,…

My heart was racing, my eyes widening, and a smile growing across my face. Then, out of the corner of my eye I saw why I am so happy. A chain of islands, appearing out of nowhere in the large and gigantic dark blue ocean, popped into my view as I automatically flew towards them. The closer I got, the more I knew where I was headed. It was the one place that has captured my mind and…

Arie From Camp white kid ramblings by Carson O’Brien I’ve told this tale before, the goal of the story at the time of its first story was to convince people it was about some other narcissist. I find it hard to tell a personal narrative, personally I believe that narrative and author should be separated. However that’s impossible, which is why artist put a vail over the non-existent face. That brings up another issue, light. Despite humans having many insecurities it is often hard for us to paint ourselves in a negative light in front of others.…

    Awkward Black Girl Essay

In the Awkward Black Girl series, the main character is depicted as a normal black woman in today’s society simply trying to figure it all out. I am a huge fan of the series and what drew me to it on YouTube was that it was extremely relatable. Granted, I do not have to go to a job that I hate every morning with a racist and desensitized boss nor do I have my own apartment, but I knew that as a black women, these things are extremely common within the 25-40 year old community. The lifestyle depicted in “Empire” was unrealistic and a far stretch from what I see for myself in the future. Having parents as record label owners, being able to express your emotions in a professional recording studio, and never having to worry about missing your rent are luxuries that only a few black women have in the United States.…

Seeing nothing, I searched for the snake on both sides of the tall, scorched golden grass and rocks for approximately thirty seconds until I realized my brother was insane—there was nothing near us. We all decided it would be best just to forget about so we continued up the hill. When we got to the top of the mountain, there was a bench made of various sized slate grey, oval rocks; it was ancient and slowly deteriorating but surprisingly stable. It looked like the Native Americans put it together before Columbus took all their land in 1492. As I assembled myself onto the bench, I admired the opening of the trees that was roughly ten feet wide; I was seeing the world at just the right…

Effects of Colonialism with Misperceptions of Hope Throughout history, countries go through change in which one does not know whether it would be a negative or positive enhancement. The revolution that is bound to come forth is difficult for many to accept, considering they are usually quite used to their old ways and traditions. The 1960’s were a time where drastic changes were hoping to be developed; especially with other colonies taking over. Two films that stood out significantly with the aspects of colonialism were Black Girl and The Battle of Algiers.…

Sex Does Not Equate to a Relationship How to Date a Brown Girl, Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie (HDBG), by Junot Diaz is a satirical manual for teenage boys that advises how to behave around girls based on their ethnicity and the stereotypes that go along with it in order to successfully seduce them. Diaz uses the second person and an instructional tone to write HDBG to portray his experience and authority in dating girls of other ethnicities. The narrator, Yunior, creates his facade by hiding items in his home, such as, government cheese and old family photos to conceal his cultural background and current socio-economic status. Yunior even adjusts his mannerisms to seem more presentable to the girls and their parents. Yunior’s guide goes…
