White clover is usually swon as a component of mixed sward pastures, where it is in continual competition for resources which companion grasses, and at times other legumes or herbs. It is Dm yield in mixes varies widely. For example, it has been measured at less than 1 t DM/ha( Brougham 1960) and up to 7 t DM/ha (Ball et all 1978) in mixed swards.
When soil N concentration is low and reserves have not yet been created with organic matter, white clover contributes significantly to DM yield, but it is a contribution in developed farm situations is seldom over 30% at a single grazing and often much less. This is not helped by the high use of N based fertiliser on many farms, which gives a further competitive advantage to grasses over clover. Research

Bud bank dynamics (Benson, Hartnett et al. 2004) study suggest that the densities and dynamics of tallgrass prairie plant populations, as well as their response to disturbance (e.g., fire and grazing) and climatic variability, may be mediated principally through effects on the demography of belowground bud populations. Patterns of seed reproduction and seed bank populations have little influence on short-term aboveground population dynamics of tallgrass prairie perennials. Our results indicate that fire in tallgrass prairie strongly influences the production of belowground meristems and rhizome bud bank population size, contributing significantly to overall vegetation responses to fire.…

A vital resource for agriculture is soil. Though a simple word, it is a complex system which provides sustainable resources to the Earth. Soil provides organic matter necessary for plant growth which supports crops and livestock. 2 It consists of disintegrated rock, organic matter, water, gases, nutrients, and microorganisms, plus it is a renewable resource (Withgott & Laposata, 2014). However, if healthy soil is not maintained, it can have devastating effects on crops and livestock.…

Tomatoes (more specifically Currant Gold rush tomatoes) are planted in plot one in the first year. Tomatoes are known to be heavy feeders especially when it comes to nitrogen. With this in mind the following year onions (Ailsa Craig onions) would be grown in the plot that previously grew tomatoes because they are very light feeders and will be the least affected by the heavy toll the tomatoes put on the soil; though it’s possible if not likely that some fertilizer will need to be put down in order to ensure that they grow without any issue. Following the onions in the next year would be a cover crop of Sorghum-Sudangrass. This cover crop has several benefits that come with it when using it as a cover crop; the two primary benefits that come from growing it are its ability as a subsoil loosener which will ensure continued and good soil structure and because this crop can grow as tall as five to twelve feet and by finely chopping it and tilling it back into the soil will add a lot of biomass back into the soil.…

    Symbolism In Snow White

When Disney released its first animated film, “Snow-White and the Seven Dwarves”, it became an instant classic. Since then, the cheery chirpy version of the story is what has stayed in the hearts and minds of young readers. The story is based off of the Grimm Brother’s version of the tale; although by no means the oldest version of the story, it is the most popular version known by readers today. However, although the image of the Disney version is bright, even the cleaned up version written by the Grimm Brothers is significantly darker than what most people might have in mind when they think of “Snow-White”. One of these darker elements is the nature of the mother-daughter relationship represented in the story as it portrays the mother-daughter relationship as a power-struggle between a young, beautiful girl and a cunning, jealous mother figure.…

Australia’s population growth will place enormous pressure on the food production industry as crop productions and livestock grazing must increase to support the growth (Ruiz et al. 2013). However, the competition for land between residential and agricultural uses has limited the availability of cultivable land (Ruiz et al. 2013). Thus, sustainability is a major concern as production industries are forced to move further out from the capital cities and thus, will drive the cost of food up (Ruiz et al. 2013). The figures in 2007 and 2008 periods showed a trend between livestock grazing and production of crop and horticulture.…

    Paragraph On Healthy Soil

Within recent decades, there has been an experience in the decrease of the soil health and fertility around the world. There are many causes to this, which will be explained later on into this essay. This is a problem that needs to have more focus put on it because soil health and fertility is arguably the basis for all of our foods and without having healthy and fertile soil, there will be a decrease in the amount of crops produced. But not only is the amount of crops produced affected, the overall nutrient level in the food that farmers are growing is lower than ever experienced. This can all be traced back to the loss in the nutrients in the soil due to various farming techniques that have been being practiced widely throughout the world…

Principal component analysis of soil chemical properties showed difference among intercropping and monoculture samples. Next to this, PCA graph of soil biological properties were shown grouping among intercropping and monoculture samples. Two-way analysis of variance results of soil properties showed a significant interactive effect by locations and cultivation systems.…
