In my opinion whistle blowing is one of the most important rights and obligations that employees have. Take for example the whistle blowing case of Dinesh Thakur and Ranxbay, it is clear that if he hadn’t have informed made an FCA complaint many people could have been injured or killed through the use of the unsafe medicine. In this way, Thakur was not only justified in what he did but also obligated to do so because other human being’s lives were at stake. This same principle applies to the Walter and BP case in which many animals could have been killed or endangered due to leftover oil in their habitats if he hadn’t have blown the whistle. And while it is true that these employees will most likely ruin their chances at ever working for that company again, it is also true that they will be recognized by society as upstanding individuals. Due to this new view of the employee that whistle blew, a different company may be highly interested in hiring them due not only to their skill set but also their proven integrity. Companies want their employees to be highly dependable, skilled, and also honest. Most whistle blowers fit this description very well. In this manner, an employee who whistle blew at one company may soon end up with a different one in a better position due to their commendable ability to do what’s right – even under pressure.
In the end, I believe that whistle blowers are essential to a business class society and can (and do) save many lives, protect privacy, and reduce the amount of fraud that goes on in a company. If it were not for these brave employees I feel companies, and businesses in general, would not be as honest as they should be. I am thankful for all of the whistleblowers in the world, and I will choose to do the right thing in my personal career as
