The issues raised for this case is about the safety of the worker during working time. As mention in the case, this mines worker was taking an alcohol in a large amount during working hour. This worker were used to drink during the lunch time. It is very an unethical manner. They can be an alcoholic and loss their cautious during working time. It is very dangerous situation either for the worker himself or other workers. As we know, working in mines area had a lot of dangerous and the possibility for an accident to occur was very high. The workers in this area should maintain and practice a safety procedure in order to prevent a big accident from happen. Sarah Smith should use the first code of ethics which is demonstrate integrity to solve her dilemmas. Even she was convince by Jack that consuming alcohol during working hour just a small problems that she should not to worry about, but she has to come back to the code of ethics before taking a decision. She has to act appropriately and in a professional manner when she perceive something wrong. She already know that taking an alcohol during working hour is not appropriate action. It can be seen clearly when she curiously asking Jack about the situation that she saw. Actually, Sarah did a good action when she asking Jack first who more experience in her new work place. But, she has to think rationally and professionally to make a decision to report this problem to the management officer instead of just keep silent like nothing happen. Even she does not want to report this problem to the management officer, she can convince Jack as a senior to advice the workers to not consume alcohol during working hour. As a professional worker, she should not get engage with someone who not apply ethical manner when they work. Firstly, she must try to advise those worker including Jack to stop doing something that may cause serious injuries. If they do not want to hear her advice, she must try to avoid from mingle around with them again. She must does it to make sure that their bad behaviour do not influence her from working and acting as professional engineer.
Practise competently also one of the best guidelines on professional conduct that can be used by Sarah to solve her problems. She as an engineer must be familiar with the safety issues in working place. So, she must maintain to practise her knowledge whenever she was placed. Even though she was just transferred from Wollongong to Queensland, it not an accused for her to just ignore the problem that happen in her new work place. She must take an action to prevent this problem which is consume alcohol during working hour from become more
