Even though I have no work experience in human resources just yet, I was able to connect one of the common professional/and or ethical behaviors associated with human resources to a personal life situation. In my undergraduate days, I was an active member of a national sorority; in fact, I served as Secretary for one term and then as President for two. During my time as President, I was faced with empowering others to report unethical behavior or conflicts of interest without fear of reprisal. Holding the role of President for 65 strong minded, opinioninated, and independent women was a challenge, but one I was willing to take.

This hotline would serve to allow members of our sorority to report any unethical behaviors and to be able to do it anonymously. It is stated in an online article titled, “Elements of an Effective Whistleblower Hotline” that, “It is essential that companies implement an effective whistleblower hotline and incentives’ employees to use such hotline, as the reporting of suspected wrongdoing internally first may provide a company with the opportunity to address and remedy the conduct or activity before it becomes unlawful or the company is required to report it to regulators.” (Kastiel, …show more content…
This experience forced me to look into different workshops and conferences that would guide and teach me different methods to bring back and apply to my chapter.
V. Overall evaluation of your performance. How do you believe your behaviors were judged by those involved in the situation? Why?
Overall I would say my performance was successful, could their of been things changed along the way? Of course, but for the first time attempting to resolving this issue, it was handled well.
After being informed of the issue, assessing the situation, creating an action plan, and keeping all members involved; I would say I believe my behaviors were judged positively by those involved in the situation. From this point forward, our organization not only did not have an issue like this again, but our communication with one another improved tremendously. We found more of our members expressing their feelings, whether positive or negative, and they were finally able to do this without the fear of being removed from the organization or frowned about by other
