Whiskey By Jana Kramer: Song Analysis

Improved Essays
As well as others, I closely relate to the song “Whiskey” by Jana Kramer, because I too have had my heart broken by someone I loved (“Whiskey by Jana Kramer”). The accuracy this song portrays of the emotions and feelings I was dealing with is astonishing. The first time I heard this song I was brought to tears by lyrics and story of her heartbreak. As much as I refused, I was left thinking and wondering about my breakup and analyzing my relationship all over again. The song talks about her boyfriend conveying himself as a “fine young man”; when in reality he is known as a party boy and allows others to be manipulated by his words and actions (“Whiskey Jana Kramer”). By the time she realized the man he really was her heart was in too deep (“Whiskey Jana Kramer”). In “Whiskey” Catt Gravitt and Sam Mizell, the writers of the song, use repetition, similes, and metaphors to convey the message of heartbreak while still relating to all …show more content…
This allows the listeners to make connections with her throughout the song. Kramer states he “warm(s) my body to the core just like a blanket” to show the feelings of love and comfort he gave her (“Gravitt, 10”). This gives the audience a chance to physically feel what his love was like to her. The use of this simile creates a sense of warmth from the listeners thus creating a deeper meaning into the song. It also allows us to dive deeper into the inner thoughts of the girlfriend and how she felt receiving his love. At the end of the song Kramer sings, “he’s gone like the wind” to show the listeners how fast he was able to leave her in the dust (Gravitt, 20”). This tells us, as the listeners while her feelings were strong for him he didn’t feel the same for her. By comparing his departure to wind the audience is able to make a real life connection and get a better understanding for how fast he was able to

When continuing listening to the song he wrote "faster than a walnut rolls off a hen house," meaning his love for her keeps going and doesn't stop. The song writer can clearly get his point of the song down into the lyrics. When listening to the song a bit longer he states the words "faster than a tree dies in the dessert" and "Alabama moonshine intoxicating this old heart.” The first lyrics he explains how a tree in the dessert doesn’t last very long just like white lightning. On the other hand “Alabama moonshine intoxicating this old heart,” goes with the reference to the memory of the first time he saw her keeps overflowing his heart.…

Well You Did It, (You’re a) Man In the 2005 hit country song, Something to Be Proud Of, Montgomery Gentry provides three values that make up a rural American family man. By emphasizing the ultimate form of nationalism, family rather than bachelorism, and hard work to achieve financial stability, the artists portray a successfully sculpted masculine model that, by their definition, is “something to be proud of”. I argue that the importance of these three values is passed down from father to son in order to maintain a masculine identity as the stoic, breadwinning head of the family. American country music is known for its vivid story-telling style.…

It is self evident that Frank Sinatra has inspired countless artists in todays music world from all diverse genres of music. The two pieces of music I will be comparing are Panic! At the Disco’s “Death of a Bachelor” and Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”. Both, “Death of a Bachelor” and “My Way” are portrayed in different ways, but both songs are in relation to an end of an era. Although the song “Death of a Bachelor” was not inspired by a specific Sinatra song, Panic! was inspired by Sinatra’s compelling use of vocal techniques and his voice as a whole.…

Out of all the songs t choose from, the one with the most meaning to me is “ Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan. This song was released in 2013, seventeen years after the singer’s brother passed away. Furthermore, “Drink a Beer” is explaining Bryan’s response to his brother’s death and the actions he took after hearing the news. “Drink a Beer” is a special song to me for two primary reasons. One is the message.…

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” is a song originally written and recorded by the Grunge band Nirvana in 1991 on their “Nevermind” album and is considered to be one of the most influential songs the band had written during their time. One year later, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was covered by singer-songwriter Tori Amos for her “Crucify” EP. While the cover may be extremely different from the original, there are still some elements that are similar among both versions. In contrast, both Nirvana and Amos play different styles of music which would change how the song is viewed by their respective audiences. Although the lyrics, in general, are the same, the overall meaning and mood of the song is different based which artist is playing the song.…

In the the third verse of the song High for Hours by J. Cole, Cole explains to his audience the importance of being at peace with yourself before trying to start a revolution and fix the entire world. He understands that his audience is quite young so he knows that he can use ethos to persuade and teach his listeners. Throughout the verse he talks about what power does to man and that there is no way for people to overthrow the powerful until they are at peace with themselves. He describes the importance of looking at the past and uses logos to analyze the lack of thought in the rising generation. The song is in the genre of hip hop and has slow paced beat and has a more serious tone because Cole is using pathos to make his audience understand…

Interestingly, as she describes each action that he took, she blames that action on some attribute of the woman he was involved with. Throughout the entirety of the song, there is a dearth of any information that could put the “other woman” at fault, such as her knowing that the man pursuing her at the bar is in a relationship, or that she was making a conscious decision to intervene in someone else’s relationship. In other words, the “other woman” was viewed as an object for sex and aggression, even by Underwood herself. This is not an uncommon theme in country music, as mostly male, but occasionally female singers, often include themes of men ‘playing the field,’ in search of sexual encounters, and women as sexual prizes, not to mention sexual violence and nonconsensual sex, all of which can be found in the “Before He Cheats” lyrics (van Oosten et al., 2015). While such themes are now being identified and challenged in modern entertainment, this song has not been a part of this movement, mainly because it is a woman negatively targeting another woman.…

This soulful song lures in people with situations similar to hers, such as; having to move on from a break up when your heart doesn’t want to and staying strong in knowing it was a reason the relationship ended in the first place, so don’t look back. In J.Coles “She Knows” he uses a juvenile young man to demonstrate the life of a average suburban family and the struggles they go through. By looking at the the two scenes spoken about in this essay, we can see what exactly J.Cole means in his title “She Knows”, which most viewers don’t see; this is important because J.Cole changes the meaning of “She Knows” through the entire music video. The first important scene starts with the young man being dropped off by his mother and father on his way to school. This scene is significant because previously before the young man left the house he stole money from his parents and the young mans mother gazes at him in the car as if she knew what exactly he had done. The second important scene starts with…
