When someone wishes to go to Australia, to flee persecution, they apply for protection with the Australian government. While they’re being processed for whether or not they are eligible to have asylum in Australia, they are kept in large camps called detention centres, and are called Asylum seekers. However, these detention centres are cruel and inhumane in their treatment of asylum seekers, and should absolutely not be used to hold anyone.
