Whiplash is a term that most people have heard from time to time. It is a term that is often associated with an accident where vehicles are involved. Though many have heard the term, they may not be aware of what whiplash actually is. Whiplash is an injury that is caused when an individual’s head or neck is jerked quickly in a forward or backward motion. This jerking motion can result in a stretched or torn muscle or tendon in the neck. The result is damage to the soft tissue within the neck. Despite that this type of injury is most common after an accident involving motor vehicles, there are also other incidents which may cause whiplash as well. Whiplash is a real condition that deserves to be treated as any other injury. To file whiplash claims, however, one should be prepared. To properly prepare, medical attention should be sought directly after the injury is sustained. Medical examinations will be able to determine the severity of the whiplash and these records will be helpful when a claim is filed. Those that are filing a claim should also be prepared with documentation of their medical expenses including the cost of prescriptions or any payments made at the doctor’s office. If the injury has caused an individual to lose wages, it is also important that they are prepared with proof of these lost wages. With proper medical records and documentation of expenses, whiplash claims are likely to be successful through insurance companies. Although in some instances it may be difficult to secure compensation from an insurance
