There is not an answer to this problem since it is simply stemmed from human nature. How people react to the topic is what causes an issue. It is the characteristics, feelings, and behavioral traits of humankind. These natural feelings such as fear, ignorance, and change are all aspects of the controversial issue of women’s rights. Fear is an unpleasant emotion that is due to the belief that something or someone is likely to cause pain, or is a danger. Ignorance has to do with the lack of knowledge or information someone has on a certain idea or topic. Change is the most common problem when it comes to women and their rights, it means to make or become different.

The term “glass ceiling” has been a topic of debate ever since it’s inception, in fact, even its origin is controversial. That said, Gay Bryant is generally seen as the person who popularized the phrase after using it in her 1985 book, The Working Woman Report: Succeeding in Business in the 80’s. The expression is used to describe the unseen barrier that limits advancement for women and minority races in the workplace despite the laws in place designed to prevent discrimination. An article which takes an interesting route in defending the idea of a “glass ceiling” is one written by Lisa Quast, aptly named “Debunking Myths of Gender Equality” as it is formatted in a way where each paragraph is undermining a so-called myth. On the contrary,…

In the article “Feminism Still Relevant as Long as Gender Inequality continues to exist” by Luisa Sanchez, she writes that unless the world becomes gender equal then feminism should still exist. However, because of resistance from those who don’t support gender equality or those who take it to the extreme only inhibit the process to that goal. She poses several questions about why wouldn’t a woman support gender equality and how are body functions a justification to “under estimate me?” Sanchez’s points come down to an overall contingency: feminism is still very relevant and very much needed. Mary Wollstonecraft once wrote, “I do not wish them [women] to have power over men; but over themselves.” This quote is of importance because many women today still feel like they do not have a say in what happens to them or to their bodies. Rape is an example of the lack of control that women have over themselves and demonstrates how their voices are not being heard. These unequal rights are exhibited in The Round House by Louise Erdrich, when Geraldine is raped her voice is not heard and the man who raped her is able to get away. Women’s voices are also being ignored in today’s society which is shown in recent court rulings when the perpetrator has been able to get away with none to little punishment at all for such a tremendous crime.…
