As an educator, I think that anything can be implemented into the classroom as long that it is used for the purpose of learning. Every educator has a different way of teaching and implementing different methods. I would definitely implement the use of different manipulative. The use of manipulative allows students to think, solve, and get the vision effect needed. At the same time it helps them to develop their cognitive level and prove their communication skills. Been able to use literature during a lesson is extremely important. This method helps the student understand, adopt, and use their prior learning. Literature is an easy method by teachers to help student feel comfortable and related. The student increases their ability to understand cognitively and develop language." Teachers can reach a child in a non-threatening way by reading children’s literature that helps teach math concepts and connect the learner’s mathematical understanding and at the same time not feeling intimidate, threaten, or turn-off a child to mathematics like some traditional approaches may have."(Pg.21) Been able to use literacy to associate counting, adding, and different math formulas is an easier way to make it fun and take the pressure away. The teacher has to have a vision, a plan, and the proper materials to make the use of these methods successful. I would implement the use of manipulative their small groups. This will provide me with the opportunity to see who needs more assistant. Also small group allows the students to communicate among each other and not loose focus easily. Implementing literacy can be done in many different times during the day. I can implement it during morning meeting, story time, and music. One way I can implement math during morning meeting is by going over the days of the week and counting the numbers. Students will have the opportunity to learn what comes before or after, the difference between one digit and two digit numbers. I can implement literacy during story time by reading a familiar story that involves counting, adding and removing. This will help the student become familiar with adding and subtracting. Last, I can use music to implement literacy and math. I would sign a familiar song, such as "Ten little monkeys jumping on the bed" and guide student with the vision opportunity to see the picture book, cognitively count, and ask open ended question such as how many monkeys are left and how many jump.
