Which potato cube had the smallest surface area?
During the investigation of part 1 and 2, it was indicating that the smaller the cell the larger the SA: V. Also, the larger the cell the less SA: V there is and this has a huge impact to the cell as it can’t get the nutrition it need which will result in death.
The larger a cell gets, the smaller its surface area to volume ratio becomes. This is important because nutrients entering the surface of the cell must increase as the volume of cytoplasm increases. However, the increase in surface area in the growing cell cannot keep up with the increase in volume, essentially starving the cell if it becomes too large.
The random error that was faced was that the cubes weren’t
