The experimental research method is “a research technique in which an investigator deliberately manipulates selected events or circumstances and then measures the effects of those manipulations on subsequent behavior” (Morris & Maisto, 2010, page 27). This method would help because this way I can use the two groups, Group A and Group B and I can manipulate which group gets what amount of exercise, and see whether or not it made a difference in their …show more content…
“The artificiality of the lab setting may influence subjects’ behavior, unexpected and uncontrolled variables may confound results; many variables cannot be controlled and manipulated”(Morris & Maisto, 2010, page 29). What this is saying is that the students may get nervous while taking the test and perform worse because they know they are being tested on if they are doing better than the other kids who didn’t exercise, so they may not do the best they could. This also isn’t the best option if I wanted to expand on what particular ways of exercise influence, (i.e. push-ups, running, a game of tag) made a difference, because it is hard to test several variables at once.
The second research method that I think could help me gather information is survey research. “Survey research is a research technique in which questionnaires or interviews are administered to a selected group of people”(Morris & Maisto, 2010, page 26). I think creating a survey could be helpful, because then I could ask the students individually how they used to feel about their reading scores, how they feel about them currently, what makes them feel that way, what they think would help them raise their scores, and to those who apply; if the additional gym time is helping their
