Where the Red Fern Grows Movie and Novel: Which is Better?

Published in 1961 but set in the 1920’s, ‘Where the Red Fern Grows’ is a novel written by Wilson Rawls. Set in the Ozarks during the Great Depression, it follows the story of a young boy named Billy Colman and his deep bond with his two coonhounds, Old Dan and Little Ann. The setting in the novel and movie were similar because they both took place in the Ozark mountains, both on a farm, in a rural setting, both had forest for Billy to hunt with his dogs Billy lived in a house as well in both of them. but the main difference between the two was the presentation. I personally loved the fact that I didn’t know what a sycamore tree looked like, it allowed me to view the story in a more personal way and it allowed me to be more imaginative and immersed in the story. And because of this, I didn’t like the way that the movie showed us exactly what everyone and everything had to look like.
