Interpersonal Communication Scenarios

Describe each scenario. What is happening? Where is this taking place? Who is the interaction between?
The first scenario involves a romantic couple, they always come to class together and sit next to each other. The girl has said that she is in a relationship before when we had to do an activity, her boyfriend said something and she agreed with it and said “that’s mine” referring to the guy that always sits next to her. But even if she didn’t say that you could just tell that they are together. The situation that I observed was them sitting in class, they are paying attention to the powerpoint and taking notes but still paying attention to each other. They always seem to be touching each other in somewhere, the girl often puts her hand on

The older man seemed to be a bible study leader and the male student seemed to be apart of his bible study group. They were having a one on one meeting in the common room of Sage Hall. The conversation was kind of awkward as well as the body language, the student seemed to be nervous and not sure how to answer the questions the older man was asking. I got the feeling he was afraid he might say the wrong thing. The older man would ask if he read a certain verse and the student wouldn’t know what to say and just answer with “yeah….”, the conversation was often stilted and there was a lot of awkward phases where either of them didn’t know what to say. They each sat across from each other and the only touching that went on was shaking hands when they first met, the student’s arms were crossed most of the time while the older man rested his arms on the table. Most of the talk was about religion and what was going on in the house that the boy lived in, the boy seemed to live in a house with all of the other bible study …show more content…
They seemed like strangers who were just meeting for the first time. But based on their conversation this was not there first meeting, although it may of been their first one on one meeting. Their conversation seemed forceful and not natural at all, I would think that if one of them never spoke to each other again it would matter to them much in the long run. Their body language was uncomfortable and I found myself thinking “Wow this is kind of awkward to observe.” at times. They really had no intimacy towards each other and I felt like the older man held the power, sometimes I thought that the younger man didn’t actually want to be there. The only time they touched was when they greeted each other by shaking hands, their conversation also lacked intimacy, it was very general and boring. “How are things at the house?” “Did you and the boys meet to do bible study in the morning?” Everything was very

When you first gave us this task I thought it would have been a flat out exercise in futility and was totally silly. I pondered internally, I definitely realize what a movement crossing point looks like why if I have to go and stay there for 60 minutes and watch what's going on. In any case, I wound up going and taking notes on my perceptions, and had an open outlook to the task. When I ran in with the outlook of an anthropologist and considered the inquiries in the syllabus, I was seeing things so in an unexpected way. I have gone by this crossing point a million times, and I was stunned by what number of things I saw that I had never even located.…

It is important that nurses are skilled in the art of interpersonal communication. Skill refers to the ability to apply the appropriate behavior in the given context. These skills include being able to encourage patients to communicate, knowing how to pose questions, responding to the replies and giving information. Effective interpersonal communication does not always occur naturally, nor it is easily acquired. Communication has been recognized as a clinical skill that, like all other clinical skills, should be formally taught and developed (Duffy 1998).…

I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…

Reading, writing, speaking, and various other forms of communication have been essential to the evolution of human beings. Our species’ dominance today was preconditioned by communication, allowing us to excel in fields such as abstract thought, logic, and rationality. Thousands of years have elapsed since the alphabet, one of our most essential mediums of communication, was invented. This invention altered the methods in which we structure our thoughts and ideas, thus domesticating the human species into the cooperative junction it is today. However, this was only an invention, not a natural occurrence imbedded into the human intellect.…

To complete the social norm experiment, I went to the mall. I stared at people in different areas of the mall until I got a reaction from them. Sometimes I sat down at their table and others I just stood in front of them. The social norm that I violated was continuous eye contact without turning or looking at something else, which is not normal for people to do.…

You plunge a thin, wooden stirring stick into the black sludge the barista dubbed a “Caramel Espresso,” circling your hand back and forth in a desperate attempt at forcing a few flakes of sugar to dissolve. It’s March, possibly the month you detest most, and you’re sitting outside in the biting Chicago breeze. Notes of grease and cigarette smoke dance on the cold spring air, and you wrinkle your nose with disdain. You despise this city—and this café, too; sappy eighties’ tunes play on repeat, and the cookies taste distinctly of cardboard. Still, you find yourself back here nearly every day, gazing out at the teeming masses of city-goers from the same off-kilter plastic chair.…

Walking into the cafeteria at lunch and sitting in the same booth my friends and I have been sitting in for the past month felt different. The one person who noticed my behavior from my fake laugh, fake smile and tone of voice was Jenavee. Being the good friend she is she didn't bring it up in front of everyone and decided to wait till we were in private to talk which I was grateful for. As soon as the bell rang for the last period I bolted out of class to the bus I just wanted to go home and curl up in a ball and watch That's so Raven. On my way home I started to think about how I shouldn't let one comment affect my future and my dream of who I want to be.…

Couples Interview Couples are an interesting family dynamic and, in this profession, counselors will experience working with many different types of couples. Personally, I have worked with couples who are enduring relationship difficulties. The challenges that they face are many, yet I believe counseling is a great resource for couples to discuss their issues with a third party and strengthen their relationship. I decided to interview a couple I know fairly well but wanted to learn more about how they come together and how they manage different aspects of their life.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…

Imagine going away from your family for 6 days in a completely different state. That’s what kind of position I was in. I didn’t want to go this church camp at all, and the only reason I was going was because I had friends coming with me. The bus ride there, I was saying to myself, “Why did I agree to come here”. Back then, I was shy because I would be worried if I messed up on something and the popular girls would make fun of me.…

Lines 8 through 11 express the idea that grass is a uniform body. There may be differences in the types of grass and they may be called different names such as “Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff” (11), but they are all uniformly green grass. Moreover, these lines also express the idea of equality since the same grass will grow “among black folks as among white” (10). Thus, these lines express the ideas of uniformity and equality.…
