The Scholastic resource assessments allow a teacher to establish an idea of the student’s reading proficiency and also helps to conclude what sort of instructional plan would best suit the needs of each individual student. With the Clinical Educator’s discretion, S’niya was assigned to complete a third-grade phonics and vocabulary assessment, and a fourth-grade phonics and vocabulary assessment. I first showed him the book and asked him to identify what the title of the book was and who wrote the book. Based of the title and the illustration on the cover page, I asked my student to make a prediction based on the provided information. Considering the basics of the book that he was given, his prediction about the tadpole becoming too large was correct. Before I read the book, I did notify him that I will be asking comprehension questions at the end, this let him prepare himself to actively listen and remember what occurred during the story.…

The assessor will need to decide the methods or activities to be used for assessment such as observations, performance evidence, discussion or witness/learner statement. How knowledge and understanding is going to be assessed also needs careful thought and could include tests, multiple choice questions, written assignment/task, a reflective journal, verbal questioning or naturally occurring evidence, all of which need to be fit for purpose and relate to the learner’s specific needs.
