Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been Final Draft In the short story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" Written by Joyce Carol Oates, is a fiction about a rebellious fifteen-year-old girl named Connie. She is obsessed with her appearance and avoids her mother when she tries to tell her that her appearance isn't what's important. Connie wants to get attention from boys until she gets attention from the wrong boy. Connie admires herself in the mirror every time she walks by one and her mother scolds her for doing so but Connie ignores what she says. Her mother wants her to be like her older sister which means to be responsible and mature. Connie takes it upon herself to just hang out and relax for the day, when she hears a car coming up her drive way. She begins to feel nervous. When she sees the car, she notices that it is the same gold convertible she saw with the same driver and another man in the parking lot while she was with Eddie. Connie begins to feel nervous, however she shows him no interest the driver approaches Connie at the door and asks her if she would to join him for a ride. She once again decides to show him no interest and says she cannot go with him because she has things to do. The man has all kinds of writing on his car and written on the side, is his name, Arnold Friend. He starts telling her about how he was in love her in ways that nobody had loved her before and she tells him he is crazy and to leave but, he doesn't leave and continues to insist that she goes for a
