When thinking about safety, we might attribute safety to an environment that is free of risk and hazards. College and university campuses are safer than other zones in America (Students For Concealed Carry 642). However, the atmosphere that campuses are known for can change with the induction of guns into school. Carrying concealed weapons hold a risk to not only the students, but to the professors as well. To keep our campus setting free of the peril, we must not allow guns to enter the grounds in the first place. Protecting oneself from an intruder is a good argument to make for having guns on campus. Nevertheless, they are not necessary when on a college campus; people who are inexperienced with a gun can inflict on themselves or others a grave injury. Stopping a potential attacker with a concealed carry on might not always work. “The average student, professor, or staff member carrying a weapon is likely to be less accurate, substantially raising the odds of more innocent victims” (Altschuler 11). Since there is a possibility that a gun is present, students will keep their ideas about sensitive topics to themselves. As a result, University debates that touch sensitive topics will make people nervous and make discussions short and uninteresting. The majority of civilians when asked about their opinions of guns coming into college campus did not want that to happen.
