What Does Education Mean To You Essay

When thinking about education, one quote comes to my mind. “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” In order to educate yourself, you need to listen, and take in all the information being presented to you. After you fully understand the concept, that’s when you have learned. However, how do you know you understand the concept completely? If you can share the new information you just learned with someone else, this is when you have completely understood your new knowledge. Understanding what you learn is a key necessity, in order to keep growing with your education . Being able to share your new information with someone else is a true test if you fully understand the material that was shown to you. When you are exposed to a new experience, it opens you up to a new information base you didn’t have before. This solidified knowledge gives you a foundational amount of material that you can expand on from that moment in time. Having that baseline gives you the opportunity to change what could’ve been a bad experience, and make it a better future experience; using the components that made it bad and changing them. A key component to learning is to have an open mind, and be accepting of new ideas. Like Aristotle said, “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” What we are learning today prepares us for tomorrow 's challenges, this is consistent throughout our days becoming a habit.
