When The Conversation Dried Up And/Or Became Unproductive?

Decent Essays
1.Was there a time when the conversation dried up and /or became unproductive? What could have been done to deal with this problem? Yes, during the seminar sometimes the conversation dried up and become unproductive. For example, when take turns to read our thesis statement, Connie was the last one and after she finished, it seems no one was going to pick up to explain their reasons or ask a question. Luckily Connie was prepared and she quickly ask her question. Sometimes everyone sticked to one aspect and when we used up all our sources the silence made us become awkward. We did not know what else to say so we just look at each other. I think when the conversation dried up, asking a new question can help make it more productive. Also I think we can bring the DBQ question back and talk about our opinions and the impacts of the crusades.
2.Did your thinking about this topic change at all as a result of your participation in this seminar?

In the beginning I just thought about the surface of it. I totally disagree that it is justified because thousands of people were killed and I think nothing is much more important than our lives. However some people said yes because the crusaders choose their own beliefs and follow their beliefs. They were prepared to die to make their country and religion better. Yes I am convinced and changed my mind about this

There have been many debates over the years about the crusades. Some people think that they were based off of a strong and unbiased religious faith to reclaim the holy lands. Others thought that the Pope and his advisors were trying to grow their country economically and politically. In my opinion, it’s the latter. The thought of the crusades being based off of economical growth is supported by these facts: the church was trying to spread its lands (Doc 1), many men were only in the crusades for the wealth and prosperity (Doc 3), the crusaders were forcefully spreading the religion of Xty to other peoples (Doc 4), the crusaders were removing other religions from certain areas (Doc 5), and the crusaders destroying the lives of many that stood in their wake (Doc 6).…

One of the course objectives I used to use for Music Cultures World was “Students will be able to identify and discuss the differences and similarities among musical performances from a variety of cultural contexts.” After taking the ACUE 1A module, I decided to revise the course outcome as follows: 1) Students will be able to illustrate the connection between music and dance in African music by producing a 5-minute flash mob. 2) Students will be able to demonstrate the application of a number notation system by creating a 5-minute gamelan performance.…

Crusaders were killing Jews for no reason and there were many massacres even though they had nothing to do with the Crusade, that's why Crusades were negative. This is relevant because Crusaders would have an bad impact towards people trusting them. The people would run away in fear thinking crusaders can’t be trusted because they might get killed for no good reason. Document 4 states that April 1204, in the fourth crusade, crusaders had destroyed beautiful relics and libraries and had stolen thousands of relics that were soon sold for money.…

The First Crusade was the only fully successful one and had five main contingents under Count Raymond of Toulouse, Geoffrey of Bouillon, Bohemon of Taranot, Count Robert of Flanders, and Duke Robert of Normandy. Byzantine emperor Alexius promised they would hold as Byzantine fiefs whatever lands they conquered from the Muslims, Alexius resupplied them and sent them on their way. After two long and hard years of campaigning in Anatolia and Syria, the crusader reached the Holy Land and in July 1099 took Jerusalem. Once entering the city a bloodbath ensued as they slaughtered civilians and setting fire to shops, homes, mosques, and synagogues. The bloody scene was not a odd occurrence as religious zeal ran extraordinarily high among Europeans.…

In the Gesta Francorum, one historian writes, “After this our men rushed round the whole city, seizing gold and silver, horses and mules, and houses full of all sorts of goods, and they all came rejoicing and weeping from excess of gladness to worship at the Sepulcher of our Savior Jesus, and there they fulfilled their vows to him.” Even with the worship of the sacred places and objects in the Holy Land, the Crusaders still went throughout the city and took whatever they pleased. Along with this fact, the Crusaders continued killing many of the Muslims who were there even after they took the city, and the historian almost paints it as a merciless killing of many people. He writes, “Next morning, they went cautiously up on the Temple roof and attacked the Saracens, both men and women, cutting off their heads with drawn swords. Some of the Saracens threw themselves down headlong from the temple…” With this description, the Crusades begin to sound more and more like a quest for power than one for a religious…
