More than 1800 students die each year due to alcohol related causes.
After researching this topic, I have come to the conclusion that the drinking age being 21 years of age is dangerous. The legal age for drinking alcohol should be lowered to eighteen years old; As an eighteen year old, they are considered adults, they can serve in the army, and they can already use tobacco. II. For many a lot of people end up trying their first alcoholic beverage. D. Since they are drinking illegally they end up drinking excessive amounts since they do not know the next time they will be able to get there hands on more alcohol which is known as binge drinking. E. This leads to them making poor decisions and even death. F. According to Ruth Engs in her article “Why the drinking age should be lowered” dated 2014 she states that “22% of all students under 21 compared to 18% over 21 years of age are heavy drinkers.”
This shows that people under the drinking age tend to binge drink rather than people of age.
If the drinking age would be changed those numbers would change dramatically.
G. Also if the drinking age was lowered the eighteen year olds will be able to drink in safe environments like bars and easily obtain a ride home from a taxi or a friend.
H. Also if the drinking age was eighteen colleges would be able to regulate alcohol usage to keep their students safe.
According to Jeffrey Tucker “The Drinking Age Should be Lowered, Fast” dated 2016 he states that “Currently 135 colleges have signed support for a lowered drinking age.”

In 1984, the federal drinking age was raised to twenty- one. Since that time, there have been many positive results, such as reduction in some college students who engage in active binge drinking. However, there have also been some negative effects. As over 100 college presidents who favor reconsidering the federal drinking age point out, many college students engage in binge drinking as a way of rebelling against the twenty-one age barrier. The presidents also point out that most college students who engage in drinking are under twenty-one years hence it can be argued that they are just rebellious.…

This fact leads to a bigger desire of the under aged students to consume alcohol and they too got the opportunity to get it from the older students. Lowering the drinking age in this case may not affect the number of people consuming alcohol, but it would affect the amount of alcohol drank by under aged drinkers, because if an eighteen year old does not know when he will be consuming alcohol next time he will be drinking as much as he can that if he gets trouble he gets it for a reason. The Dartmouth study of 2007 shows this relationship, by the fact that in the last month less underage people consumed alcohol in the States, than in Europe, but when they drank they drank more than people in European…

I really think the drinking age should be lowered to the age of eighteen. If you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense. For three main reasons. One, teenagers are going to drink alcohol anyway so we might as well legalize it. Two, people are allowed to vote and fight for our country in the military yet they aren 't allowed to even drink alcohol.…

However, it has been theorized, “if the drinking age were to be lowered to 18, young people would perhaps feel less compelled to drink in secret and to binge while doing so,”(“The Legal Drinking Age: 18, 21, or 25?”, 2016). Currently, “drinking by these youth is seen as an enticing "forbidden fruit," a "badge of rebellion against authority" and a symbol of "adulthood," (Engs 2014). So, it should come to no surprise that drinking is taken to such extremes.…

Although 18 year olds are considered adults, some think that they are still not mature enough to make to correct choices about alcohol. Those who think that keeping the drinking age at a higher minimum are trying to keep the demand for alcohol down and are also trying to keep the roads safer from drunk drivers. People between the ages of 18 and 20 will have just started college for the most part and don’t need alcohol interfering with their studies and their ability to succeed in life. Condoning the drinking of newly formed adults would only cause chaos and cause more fatalities. To MADD the cost of drinking outweighs the benefits since the highest numbers of fatalities in the United States are due to alcohol related deaths.…
