When She Turned: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Alice was afraid she had gotten herself into a great deal of trouble. Or at the very least given Zeph even more reason to believe she was simply broken. When really she had just been day dreaming. Alice missed being outside, missed feeling to do more, and have choices. She missed home, her real home, and still had no idea why she had been given away.

"It will heal," she spoke softly as Zeph asked about her hand. She had a next gen nano system and it would see to the wounds. Though it tended to mimic natural healing time she had the ability to speed up the process should an emergency arise. "Your grafter would not have worked. My epidermis was created with a prototype human repilcant. Grown in a lab just for me, like they do in hospitals. Your machines couldn't match it and would do more damage than good." Alice explained as best she could with what she had been told by her maker.

I will finish here and take care of the kitchen. I am sorry I worried or caused you more work." she apologized and looked to Kelly. She was going to ask Kelly if she intended to watch her shower and report back on that as well. But it seemed as if it would be a bit rude so she turned away instead.

Once they both left Alice pulled her dress off. The fabric seemed glued to her curves, but fell to the floor after some effort. Kicking off her shoes and removing her undergarments was thankfully easier and soon joined the dress she wore on the floor. Alice adjusted the water and stepped in to get washed up.

Once that was done she dried off and wrapped herself in a towel. Only stopping to drop her wet clothes in a laundry shoot before slipping back into Zeph's room. She saw the bag of clothes he mentioned and began looking through them. Some were silly, clearly from models meant for some sort of show. Some where clearly made for sex bots, or worker

Character Insert-Creative Writing Project Dixie-Lee Hayes lay on the ground gasping for breath, scowling at the tree above her. That very particular tree, which she had been previously occupying, was the dark-haired woman's favorite because it grew at an angle and required very little effort to climb. The branches of the surrounding trees were full enough to shade the area but not to obstruct her view of the camp, making it the perfect area for her to people watch after she had finished her chores. The tree was steep enough that no walker would have had enough balance to climb and covered enough that anyone from the group would have to actively look for her in order to see her, giving her the perfect false sense of security.…

A lot of people tend to take life and what it comes with for granted. The seven year old girl was searching for more than she can bear herself and didn’t even notice that, at her age, all she needed was somebody who nurtured her and cared for her. The author was also able to use a literary element that made me enticed into the text even more which was imagery. Throughout the passage, she went in depth of how she traveled in search of finding her “real” family. For example on page 83 (line 5) it states “ Sweat trickled down my spine as I stopped for a break on a fallen tree…” You can actually imagine the deprivation and tiredness she has from all that…

Authors are artists. They create worlds and can depict anything the imagination fancies, all with a pen and paper. However, is the role of an author that of ego or benevolence? This question is examined in both Charles Brockden Brown’s Wieland and Catharine Sedgwick’s Cacoethes Scribendi. Carwin’s confession to Clara and the emphasis on the act of writing, as demonstrated through the epistolary aspects of Wieland, reveal Brown’s own metaphorical commentary on the role of an author as one of both vulnerability and authority while he too mimics unfamiliar voices.…

Another reason I loved her so much was because of the things she did not tell us outright. This book is told in two separate ways. We get both Alice’s narration, and then snippets of her journal entries at the end of each chapter. These journal entries shed some much needed light on everything that happened to Alice in her past and how it made her into the girl we meet in the first chapter. She was remarkable, really.…

Ever since Salvatore's Bar & Grill opened its doors, Stefan Salvatore always felt that he was more serious about the business than his partner and older brother Damon. Not to say that Damon did not work, because he did, but most of the time he was trying to also have a good time. Almost daily Damon was giving out shots on the house and joining in with the crowd while Stefan could be found in the office most of the time. It probably didn't help that Damon's girlfriend (who also worked there) was Stefan's ex-girlfriend. Sure, time had passed and Stefan felt like for the most part he had moved on, but he often felt awkward to be around them unless he had to.…

Hektor finds what he's looking for a mere three blocks from his abode, though it's far to close to where he lives. He could follow her, cajole her to further places with his chiseled features and vaguely familiar yet foreign accent, if all else failed there was enticing simplicity of hypnosis, though such acts could be readily interpreted by an outsider looking in, damning all attempts to feed this night and besides; Hektor enjoyed that very idea that they accepted their fate with the added caveat of death. Caveat emptor Life emanated from her on a level that aroused his senses, he could still sense the subtle complexities of the wine that lingered upon her lips, the steak and vegetables barely concealed by the dusted loaves of artisan bread dolled up by freshly churned butter.…
