1. Why do you want to attend one of the United States Service Academies?
I believe a service academy is the ultimate way to test and build myself as a person and leader. Throughout my life I have put myself into positions of leadership which at first felt uncomfortable, but resulted in a growth I would not have obtained otherwise. My most memorable experience pushing my own boundaries to grow as a leader was when I took on the role of senior patrol leader in my scout troop. My dedication to objectives I find important has allowed me to overcome obstacles that appear insurmountable but quickly become achievable through constant effort and believing in myself. When I first joined scouting at the age of thirteen to a small unestablished troop I had major doubts I would reach Eagle Scout. The majority of scouts start out at age eleven, so I was already behind, and my troop had never had anybody achieve the rank of Eagle. After working through the first ranks of scouts, it quickly became apparent that I could achieve Eagle if I set my mind to it, and now I am soon to become the first Eagle Scout my troop has ever had. Another insurmountable goal I ultimately achieved through my dedication was a Varsity position and then Captain of the cross country team. When I started cross country I was running over ten minutes slower in a 5k than the slowest person on varsity, so my chances of ever reaching the top seven (Only seven on varsity) were meager. In spite of these obstacles indicating that a varsity slot was nigh impossible to reach I was able to improve my times year after year until finally in my junior year I was able to shave 9 minutes off my time and get a varsity slot. In both of these examples my dedication to a goal allowed me to overcome the difficult obstacles and achieve my goals, though while doing this I was also able to inspire my peers. My ability to inspire others through my dedication is another one of my strengths. In my goal to become Eagle Scout I was also able to convince the other scouts in my troop that if you work hard you can also reach Eagle, which has motivated some of them to push towards it as
