When is lying acceptable, always, sometimes, or never? Correct! Sometimes is the right choice because lying is occasionally acceptable. Since our childhood, we were told that we should be honest no matter what happens. However, today it seems that lies are somewhat part of our lives. Sometimes dishonesty really does harm others. But, I staunchly disagree with being honest all the time. There are plentiful cons to being honest all the time. Nobody can imagine a person who is completely truthful. I know, the truth can hurt people’s feelings when you don’t want to hurt them. I have been in many situations where I had to lie because it might have hurt their feelings if I had told them the cold truth. So, I boldly believe that being honest all the time in a difficult position is laborious. But it lying might protect others, it might get you out of strenuous situations, help being positive and encouraging, …show more content…
If a patient that is about to be operated asks his doctor if he would be okay, although the chances of survival may be very minor, it would be acceptable for the doctor to lie and say that everything would be alright as it will encourage the patient to keep fighting for his life. Instead , if the doctor had told him the truth, the patient would have been discouraged and wouldn't be willing to fight for his life anymore, which could have had fatal results. It would sound very wrong for someone to tell the patient that he was about to die. Also, another example is if you are going to war. Your family is very nervous and scared about you. But you tell them you are going to be fine and will come back. But deep inside you know there is a chance that you will not ever come back home. Lying in those types of situations is more than okay to do. So lying to be optimistic and encouraging in distressing and sorrow circumstances are actually good to

If you ask most people do you think lying is acceptable, majority of them will not hesitate and tell you yes, and then give you multiple reasons on why lying is a bad thing. But if you actually sit down and think, everyone lies several times a day sometimes without even knowing it because the lie was so small and meaningless. But in other occasions people lie to protect things they care for and about they are also willing to accept the consequences behind their lies and actions. Some may even feel that lying at that point of time it was acceptable due to the situation they are put in. In the short story “Someone Ought to Tell Her…

Of course, I’m human and lied sometimes but ultimately never felt right doing it. Partly because my parents focused so much of their time and energy, working up to 60 hours a week at the fields, and still had time to teach me honestly. I just took it as my duty to never lie, almost out of respect. Just last week, I took a quiz for AP history, and I got a 3/10 on a quiz. I had the opportunity to give him a fake score, but since he is such a nice person, I couldn't take advantage of him.…

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

As evidence, in the article, “The U.S. Political Campaign”, by Paul Gray states that “Anne Frank survived as long as she did because those sheltering her and he family lied to the nazis.” This connects to my argument because this shows that sometimes you have to lie in order to protect someone from a life or death situation. What I mean by this is lying is tolerable when it comes down to a dangerous situation. Additionally, in the article, “It's the Truth”, by NBC News, Cohen states that “An obvious example is when you’re lying to protect someone from serious harm.” To put this in another way, you need to lie to keep someone away from serious harm.…

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…

In the essay The Ways We Lie by Stephanie Ericsson, she mentions on how she discovered that telling the truth all the time is nearly impossible because it would be living with some serious consequences. Throughout the history of the United States and other parts of the world, a high percentage of people tend to not be able to tell the truth when they are asked simple questions by members of their family or by their close friends. As telling the truth may have consequences, telling lies may have deeper consequences that cannot only hurt the person telling the lie, but it can affect the person being lied to. Being known as a liar can cause problems in a relationship because it will bring on trust issues and can also cause one’s partner to overthink…

I once lied and grew tired of the game and i thought about it and realized that honesty was the key to this cage of lies that I got myself locked into. It is better to be honest than to be anything. For example, if there is a person who does not like conflict, he or she may tell a lie to fix the problem (Ford 98-99). People will also lie to other people by leaving out less desirable information that might hurt the other person emotionally. Lisa Firestone wrote “Even lies told in the name of protecting others can leave you feeling pretty bad about yourself, because you don’t feel like an authentic, strong individual when you aren’t being honest” (Firestone). The most common reason that lies by omission are told is to prevent unpleasant situations from occurring, even if it causes one to feel guilty (Firestone). People who have a big heart or cannot stand the thought of hurting someone or embarrassing them typically will lie to the other person by leaving out the more displeasing details.…
