For example, when your significant other talks to another person and you do not like it. You start to feel that he/she may leave you for the other person which can lead to a conflict. I found it very interesting that there are five ways to deal with conflict. The avoiding technique is the one I always use because I believe when there is conflict it makes me feel negative and upset. In some circumstances, I decide to compromise because I just want to end the conflict in a positive manner and maintain my relationship with the other person in a good manner. However, if I am extremely angry and the situation is very bad I will compete with the other side. It is not the best thing to do but sometimes it is beyond my control. The TedTalk was really inspiring and was a great perspective on conflict. This is definitely the first time I have ever learned about conflict being a positive instead of a negative. I liked this viewpoint because it helps encourage a more positive lifestyle and it gives proof of how conflict can be used for good. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the ways to turn conflict into something that can serve others and drive extraordinary innovations as mentioned in the video.…

Growing up, I noticed, when approached with conflict, my sisters and my mother would often state that they did not want to talk about it or would simply leave the room. I now have a phrase for this: the exit response. For us, the exit response was always temporary. If the problem was serious, it would eventually be brought back up; if it wasn’t, then things usually got better on its own. While my dad is often the first to use the voice response, I have noticed that my dad often chooses the loyalty response, too.…

The conflict I talked about in my conflict summary took place between my older sister and me in a Facebook Messenger chat. We started talking about her current relationship and the repercussions if she decided to bring her boyfriend home and introduce him to the family. The conflict started when I told her things she did not want to hear, for example, that her boyfriend would not fit in with our family because he is a different religion and race. The reason I said this is because my family is very religious and are very traditional; therefore, even having a boyfriend is a bad thing. As the conflict escalated, I told her how I felt about this relationship and that I thought her boyfriend was taking her away from me.…

Whether in the workplace or in a home setting, the manner in which I approach to conflict dictates the quality of relationships I share. This reflective essay will hopefully serve to give examples, as to how conflict can be appropriately channeled; also, this essay will highlight some reasons conflict is viewed negatively.…
