I'm going to be completely honest with you all.

As you can see, I didn't do too well in high school. Mostly due to severe emotional trauma. I felt worthless even after graduating, and took a year off from school to figure out what I wanted to do in life. During that year I spent most of my time getting my thoughts together and treating my depression through therapy and medication, and I'm in a much better place now.

After that year I applied and was accepted to Meredith College, a private womens college in Raleigh, North Carolina. While I do really like this school with their sense of community and all of the fun traditions, and I've made so many friends, I

High school was either going to help me make it or break it. Bell High School was not among the top high schools in my district. It was known for its high drop out rates, teen pregnancies, and gang violence. As I rushed to school attempting to finish my homework because I was not able to finish while babysitting, I always herd “Hey come take a hit “or “ look at this new product, try it out”, we all wanted to succeed, but nobody wanted to put in the time and effort to divert us from the wrong paths. Unfortunately, this led may students towards drug addictions and gang violence.…

During my junior year I experienced failure. I had taken 3 AP classes and I was in cheer at my high school, and trying to figure out a balance between the two was difficult for me because it seemed like cheer took up a lot of my time and in the past other two years it had, but I had managed to still do well in my honors and AP classes. My junior year was another story, I struggled a lot at the beginning of the school year, and most of first semester was spent with me having an F sometimes more than one, and that was a failure to me because I had my heart set on going to a four college or university and I knew that if i had an F i wouldnt qualify.…

Even when I do everything possible to succeed, it is still possible to fail. Since this experience dealing with failure has become much easier even though I strive not to fail. This situation has helped me deal with many school failures, such as my end of the quarter test. Similar to my slump, my last quarter of Government was not showing the type of student I am, and there was one last shot to get the grade up. I know that failing that test didn't mean I wasn't smart, but instead, it wasn’t my day as luck wasn’t on my side.…

Failing was never an option for me because back in my country, I was a straight A student, so the first semester made me cry a lot, my tears taste like a sour patch. At the end of the year I ended up passing to 8th grade and was very happy I didn’t have to repeat the same grade. As the days passed and a new school year started, I felt a little better. The first time I walked into the classroom, I sat in the corner and started crying because looking at the kids made me remember my friends in Ethiopia. Seeing them act out reminded of me and my friends getting in trouble and getting hit with a hose by our teachers, I know this is surprising to most people, but I really missed being in trouble.…

In Ian Frazier’s essay “In Praise of Margins,” he sees marginal places and activates valuable. The very word marginal to Ian Frazier has a simple meaning of a “negative tinge” (Frazier) where it is defined as actions and decisions that are non-goal oriented, or without purpose. In Frazier’s Own life, a marginal activity and a place for him and his friends were out in the woods as it was there “part-time address, destination, purpose, and excuse” (Frazier). However, growing up Frazier and his friends had the woods as their marginal activity which was often seen by society as unbeneficial. But, from an academic perspective, I agree with Frazier that marginal activates are important.…

The desire to pursue a college degree led me to overload my academic schedule with advanced placement classes, all while struggling with recurring depressive symptoms. The pressure to succeed and a demanding class load led me to plummet to depression my junior year of high school, a fall that was difficult to overcome on my own. It is a common thing that after God blesses people and they are well fed and have become fat, they begin to relax and withdraw from their devotion that was not the case with the patriarchs. The more they were blessed, the more their devotion grew (Genesis 35:1-7). There are many things that can kill or paralyze a family altar and destroy the gates here are three of them: Excuses An excuse is a reason given to explain one's conduct, omission or commission.…
