A wise man by the name of Mortimer Alder once said, “The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live.” We never outgrow the ability to learn, so we should continue to strive to learn something new daily. During the past semester while taking Composition II, I learned a myriad of things that are going to help me in my future such as how to properly cite in MLA format, how to not plagiarize, and how to become more organized. Before this class, I never knew the right way to write MLA format papers or cite. However, during this class I learned what information needed to be included in the citations as well as the format the citation had to be in.…

The biggest challenge had to face when it came to writing was in my senior year of high school. During the summer of my senior year we had to read this called the “The Mis-Education of the Negro” by Carter G. Woodson. I thought this was just going to be another read and reflect paper, but it turn out to be a 5 page analysis. We had to break down the book chapter by chapter and explain how the book relates to today’s society. The reason why this was challenging because I couldn’t understand the language that the author was using.…

Out of all of the subjects I take in school, my favorite would have to be writing. I enjoy this form expression through words, and also enjoy reading expression through words. Writing allows me to express my feelings, thoughts, or emotions; I can put my mind and all of its thoughts up on display for all to be able to read and see. Through writing (and reading) I can read other’s ideas and works, and I can benefit from those. I can compare my thoughts with others, and teach and learn through writing and reading, creating a sort of symbiotic relationship between me and others.…

In a writing-based program, there are many challenges but there are also advantages. One of the challenges that students face is time management (Chambers, 2016). Students will need to make time within their schedules to complete the coursework on time. Often adult students are working full time and managing a household prior to starting college. These students will need to express with their families, and others involved in their everyday life, how important this is to them so that they understand and support the needed time to complete assignments.…

I always viewed writing assignments in school as tedious and mundane. I felt as if I was not doing anything valuable. I did not think my writing was getting any better since I would follow a scheme of an essay and every essay written in class would look similar. Moreover, I sure that when professors graded my essay, it was just another boring paper for them. Also, I did not understand why I should have used more synonyms and more complex sentences when all of these were making it harder to get the point across.…

In reality writing is probably one of the most difficult things to do, whether it’s an individual’s career or just free writing. It is very difficult for me to begin writing; I am a big procrastinator. I will avoid the assignment until the very day it is due and then rush to turn in what I can. When avoiding certain assignments, I’ll probably begin baking to take my mind off of the assignment and other work that is due. I’ll call my grandmother ask her how her day was, try to catch up with some relatives I haven’t talked to in a while or ask my dad if he needs help in the yard.…

I hate writing! Writing is the repetitive routine that is not attractive or engaging. Indeed, as I start to write, I lay on my bed tiredly, blankly stare at the computer’s screen, and secretly pray for magical words and thoughtful ideas to rush into my dumb brain. In fact, as an English learner, it took me a huge amount of time and effort to learn how to write. I migrated to the United States four and a half years ago from Vietnam with my family and started school without knowing any English.…

On Writing in School Most students groan when they hear about a writing assignment even some adults feel the same sense of dread when hearing those two words. They feel as though they have better things to do with their time, or with their brain power. These students know that they would rather go out and spend time with friends or family then to have to write a thousand word essay. I admit I was once one of these people, I was someone who struggled to find the motivation to write, to find the need to write. And honestly it is something that I struggle with to this day though in a smaller capacity than I once did .…
