George Orwell is a man that visualized a society where the government controlled everything and everyone from the language to what we are allowed to be accountable of. In “When Euphemism Disguises Truth: George Orwell’s Foresight”, by historian Bernard A. Weisberger he talks about how the government manipulates everything to their advantage such as deteriorating the language. Weisberg supports this claim by demonstrating how the German, Russian, and Italian languages have been deteriorated in the last 10 to 15 years as a result to dictatorship. In “FBI Abandons Carnivore Wiretap Software.”, it talks about how the FBI uses software to check up on us without us knowing. “There is just a huge amount of innovation and development going on in the private sector.” What this is trying to say is that there are plenty of things happening in the shadows that we aren’t aware of about. Just like in 1984 were Winston’s job is to edit the newspaper before they go out without the people reading it being aware that what they read is edited before it reaches them. Later in the article it says, “....unaware of any commercial wiretaps software includes audit features..”, just like in 1984 where the telescreens lets “Big Brother” see what citizens are doing. Meanwhile in “This Smartphone Tracking Tech Will Give You the Creeps” , it says “skyhook developed the first hybrid location system to use WiFi positioning…”. Determine the coordinates of a device, even indoors” , this is similar to the helicopter in 1984 because it locates people, however the new technology can pinpoint your location which is similar to the technology in 1984 can’t do. In “Our Surveillance Society: What Orwell and Kafka Might Say.” , it says ,” He was so good picking up on trends that he picked up our whole future”. He visualized a time where the government controlled everything and kept track of everyone by tracking you through GPS. This is being accomplished with the usage of cellphones and the internet without us knowing, and also by taking advantage of technology. However there are ways to avoid having your privacy invaded and getting actual privacy. Therefore, people don’t have to give up their aspects of their personal privacy. Personally I believe that Orwell’s visualization has become a reality without us being aware of what goes on our everyday
