When Cloning Is Wrong

Have you ever wondered what the long term effects would be if cloning was legalized? Maybe the risks involved with it? Well, Leon Kass once stated that “Cloning represents a very clear, powerful, and immediate example in which we are in danger of turning procreation into manufacture.” This being said brings up the topic of whether cloning should be legalized due to the dangers it holds. The answer to this is no. However, Many people disagree. A copious amount of people believe that there can be benefits to parents who cannot conceive children of their own, extra organs for those who need them, and advancements in the field of technology. None of these reasons are good enough to support the legalization of cloning. The reasons that cloning should …show more content…
Many believe that cloning will provide many advancements in the field of medicine but we do not know for sure if the process of cloning can be perfected or how long it would take so therefore it should not be legalized. Jose Cibelli says that human cloning could be very possible in the future, but, “it would be criminal to try now because of the suffering caused by the many lost pregnancies the process involves.”(Chinese). So much suffering and many lost children could cause harmful effects on women therefore making this unethical. Human cloning would also “ require many women to donate eggs and to bear children for others.”(Chinese). Women would half to go through a lot for a process that would cause much stress, take much time, and even cause harm. Also the topic of animal cloning strikes many reasons as to why cloning is unethical. There are a majority of animal casualties in the process of trying to clone animals and scientists say that it would be “foolhardy to pursue experiments in humans.”(far). Nevertheless, It is not yet safe for us to attempt at any cloning. If a child were to be cloned it would face many “psychological and emotional risks” because they may receive social isolation and would live under a shadow of the original child.(Chinese). People could also end up being cloned without agreeing to it. It only takes “one cell to start the process, someone, perhaps a celebrity, could be cloned without her consent.”(national). This poses many threats to people's individuality and is very unethical. Cloning results are not set in stone. The results are not predictable and Cloning has “ a failure rate of at least 90 percent” showing that many lives are lost.(Chinese). Also, there are many “safety risks and potential harm to the women involved in both the extraction of the eggs and implantations of cloned embryos.”(Rygiel). All of these reasons show how cloning should not be

In the article “Ethical Issues of Cloning” by Rita Putatunda explains about the problems of cloning. Copying the genes and making new reproductions of the human is equivalent to “playing God”. The successful cloning of Dolly (Sheep) in 1997 brings many tension upon society and furthers the possibility of human cloning. However, there is a high failure rate of cloning and it may alter the genes of the cloned animal/human. Putatunda questions that the cloning outcome might act as a unique individual or have to live like a genetic prisoner.…

The medical advances we could have makes it hard to say that it is wrong. I also think that reproductive cloning should be legally okay. Many women these days are deemed infertile by a doctor, there unable to conceive by themselves. With the help of human cloning, it is possible for women to have the chance to carry their own child and not have to use a surrogate mother. That really gives you a perspective on how important cloning could be to someone.…

The reproductive cloning of human embryos is largely considered unethical because a human clone would have a greatly decreased quality of life; clones often suffer from genetic and physical abnormalities, and have greatly shortened lifespans. Others fear that the reproductive cloning of human embryos has the potential to be abused. In theory, one could create human clones for purpose of organ harvesting. For these reasons, many countries have halted research on the reproductive cloning of humans.…

Therapeutic cloning involves using cloning processes to produce embryonic stem cells, tissues or whole organs for transplantation. The main ethical issues associated with therapeutic cloning are those relating to the creation and destruction of embryos, and whether refining the cloning technique will create a ‘slippery slope’ from therapeutic to reproductive cloning1. Reproductive cloning is the use of cloning to grow a living person who shares the DNA of the progenitor. Live animals have been cloned using fission (in the cattle industry) and SCNT (e.g. Dolly the sheep). There are currently no confirmed cases of deliberate cloning of a human embryo that was allowed to grow into a live baby.…

Repugnance is the extreme feeling of distaste or repulsion. But does repugnance mean something it is morally wrong? Leon R. Kass would argue that it does; especially when it comes to human cloning. I agree with Kass, there is something seriously disturbing about human cloning and it should not be practiced or made legal. Although I agree with his stance on the matter, I think his arguments are weak.…

Cloning a child would be unethical for the simple reason being the clone is its own person. “The main point to keep in mind is that a cloned human being would not be a mere replicant. It would be a unique person”(Dudley 40). Many people do not understand that a clone will not be exactly like the person they wanted to clone personality wise and they will make their own decisions. This would then add pressure to the child making them feel like they aren’t a “real” kid, or make them feel like they have to live to be like someone else.…

The article written by Bioethics mainly focuses on discussing the purposes to clone children for the childless. "If a man could not produce sperm, cloning would allow him to have a child who is biologically related to him"("PCBE: Human Cloning and Human Dignity: An Ethical Inquiry -- Full Report" 2002).Couples who desire a biological child and are faced with infertility obstacles would benefit from cloning to produce children because they would no longer be stripped from the opportunity of bearing their biological child that carries their genetic inheritance. This is of great importance to many couples because it will preserve their bloodline for many generations to come. Bioethics continues to talk about the purposes of the cloning of children and the reasons to do so. "Human cloning could allow couples at risk of generating children with genetic disease to have healthy children.…

A heated debate is waiting to explode over the ethics of cloning and what dangers come from genetic cloning. One of the focuses of this debate is what are the risks and safety violations with allowing for genetic cloning to continue and what could happen to humans as this technology develops. Animals are the main test subjects on the effects of cloning to attempt to determine the possible effects that could happen to humans if more technology is developed. As more animals are continued to be tested companies want these cloned animals to be processed for food. Genetic cloning of animals for meat is wrong because there could be potential dangers towards humans, more animals create a problem with food and water supply, and the amount of land…
