Such as I sit here in class and write this letter to you, I find for myself thinking nearly the reading processes we’ve learned. The Instructor taught us two dissimilar types of reading procedures. In the first reading procedure, he told us to distinct the reading into units. On the left boundary of these segments, he told us to write a small account of the section. On the correct margin, he had us magnet pictures that represents what occurred in that section. Later doing this, unjust looking at the pictures I drew helped me promptly recollect what I read. In the second reading manner, he had our class try to generate a storyboard, but I didn’t find this almost as helpful since there were no words. There were merely pictures.
The first reading procedure, we’ve erudite actually helped me with all of the readings we’ve done. Readings like “In what way Can You Generate Narrative When Certainty Comes to Call Chicken by Chicken: Certain Guidelines on Writing and Life by Our Professor, in the Drawing of Writing by Another Professor, Everybody Knew I was Gay.They assisted me by giving me advices on how to write. In Rhetorical Reading Strategies and the Construction of Meaning Christina Haas and Linda Flower target experienced and inexperienced readers with the intention of extending the constructive, rhetorical view of reading to share with others, and therefore helping them to become better writers. By studying the thinking strategies of experienced readers at Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for the Study of Writing using a ‘thinking aloud’ method, Haas and Flower were able to see a correlation between strong reading ability and strong writing ability: rooted in comprehension. By thinking aloud readers were forced to use not only what they understood about the text, but also their own personal knowledge to create their own inferences and hypotheses…

When assigned to read a source and write a follow up paper, often times a student will only do the bare minimum that is required of them and just skim the text. However, this is a practice that is ultimately harmful for the learner, as when one does not dig beneath the surface level of a piece of work, they can not accurately analyze or garner the author’s true purpose and intent for writing. Instead, author Mike Bunn challenges college students to “read like a writer” (Bunn 2011), and focus more on how effective the work is and whether or not the author achieved their purpose. By following this practice, a student is able to produce greater works of their own, as they will learn from the style and structure of others. Therefore, when dealing…

“Rhetorical Reading Strategies and the Construction of Meaning” from Haas & Flowers wants us to understand the true meaning of reading and writing, how we need to see reading as a “constructive rather than a receptive process” (Haas & Flower 167). Targeting students and teachers as well, Haas and Flower managed to develop an article that explains and shows us some misconception of our daily writing life that should be known by everybody. They make questions towards students asking if they really gather all the information that is available in the articles, and if they are available to print them on their writings. Some of the students use a strategy called “rhetorical reading” to get the most out of the texts but only experienced readers managed to use this skill as supposed to. Freshman readers and experienced readers are mentioned and evaluated with the same article, comparing their results, Haas & Flower observed that experienced readers could get more juice out of the readings due to the experience and the previous knowledge in the area.…

Mary Beth Stevens suggests writing supports reading by asking students to draw upon common knowledge and thinking processes (2014). In the Texas Treasures Literature curriculum students continually respond to text through writing activities. At the end of each section they record their responses by writing a personal response. These responses require critical and higher order thinking skills because students answer open-ended questions and utilize summarization, inference and interpreting meaning skills. This allows students to explore their own thoughts and make connections to the text.…
