Eddie Jefferson believes wheelchairs is a solution for mobility. Wheelchair basketball is an excellent example because it is a sport that revolves on wheelchair’s. The wheelchair have been modified to improve mobility which prevents the person from staying in one spot.Basketball is a game that relies heavily on mobility, thus making basketball use wheelchair as movement is evidence enough that wheelchair’s are mobile.To further improve the mobility of the wheelchair modifications have been made. The wheels have been slanted inwards allowing the player to turn quickly. The wheelchair itself is lighter than the traditional wheelchair allowing faster movement. With all these enhancements for movement, how can a wheelchair basketball player stay in one spot? They would most likely to use their wheelchair to its full potential and move a lot. Before the TDD was invented many deaf employee’s were turned down for a promotion because of their disability. The main reason was because the higher job position will require the use of telephones. Having the disability of being deaf must have been discouraging because at the time there really was not much you can do about it. Until inventions such as the TDD and cochlear implants came around the deaf then started taking more control of their lives. Starting with employment, now the deaf can start working on equal terms as regular employee’s despite their disability because they possess technology which enables them to function better almost as if they did not have the disability. The main example Ellie has given is working at an airport as an information kiosk. A traveler may need to ask for some information and the deaf person is now able to communicate with the traveler and provide the information needed however I can see the kinect camera being used in more places than just at an airport. For instance it can be used in a company environment as well, in meetings this will be essential because a big part of meeting is being able to communicate and cooperate and the kinect is able to provide for the deaf person allowing him or her to become more involved in the conversation.
