2.7. INFLUENCE OF WHATSAPP AS E-LEARNING AMONG STUDENTS
The Whatsapp messenger was created by Acton and Koum in 2009 to make communication and the distribution of multimedia messaging more easily and faster. It works with internet connectivity and helps its users to stay in touch with friends and relatives in the contact list. Apart from making its users getting connected with each other, it also helps them to create groups, send images, short videos and audio messages. Seen as the most popular instant messenger service used by youth today, as they give more importance to friendship, social lives, and family relationships. Whatsapp is used on a large scale. The reason why Whatsapp is so popular among youth is that it allows them to send unlimited texts to their friends and family members without any cost other than their internet data plan that they already use on their smartphones. The application is so easy to use after downloading. It shows an individual which people in their contacts list is also using it and also helps to invite their friends who are yet to download and use. (Subramani, 2015).

Moreover, they admitted in their study that social media negatively affect students' performance. It was also found in their study that student uses the social media social for non-academic related purposes which do not have any positive trickling down effects on them aside entertainment.
