What's Working: Toontown

The story was pretty easy to follow with the divided up sections for each ToonTown character. The only question I had in regards to clarity was where the voices were coming from? I wasn’t sure if the voices were an imagination or consciousness of the figures who were sketched and brought to life. I’m not sure how the author wants his readers to read the story? I would like to know what each character is (i.e. drawing, action figure, digital sketch) and whether or not they are alive or dead. I know they aren’t human beings, but if they are dead I don’t think they would have a voice. I just want to know more about the character when I am reading their particular voice. I think the author could clarify if these voices are the soul and spirit of ToonTown’s original artwork and sketches. On the flip side of that, I am wondering if the narration and voice is from the creator/artist who created each superhero. I think who’s talking could be defined rather the reader assuming.

It was easy to follow and I was able to distinguish the different voices from each character. I also appreciated how each section was labeled and titled and not just given a number. It made each section feel personalized and a tribute for each character, who has been replaced.

3. Suggestions for Improvement: I don’t really have any suggestions for improvement; I like the story the way it is. If I had to name one thing, it would be to clarify what each character is or made of. I think the characters are lacking some crucial descriptions in their characterizations. Some characters were defined as GIFs and others I may have overlooked, but I think if you had some details for each character about what they are, as physical objects, your readers could connect more to that particular voice. Even if it’s just a sketch of an action figure on a piece of paper, I think you should clarify that from the

It is clearly shown that Barbara has no problem painting images with words and is very confident with her language. Thirdly, was the author’s pacing. She kept the story in a steady pace and she didn’t get too boring or too intense, for the most part. With reference to that, I would like to point out a weakness that stood out for the author, and that was the way she concluded the story. I approve of how well she built up the story, but when it got to the ending, it felt abruptly cut off.…

It is easy to understand and follow the text making it accessible to a wide audience. It is written in a way that makes you believe that the conversation could actually have taken place, as the language is not farfetched. Curse words appear often which elaborates how imperfect the characters are but at times it may seem a bit excessive and unnecessary. There is no hidden meaning behind anything described so there are no sudden twists or turns that the reader may struggle to…

I feel that your writing offers more as a film treatment with elongated sentences with adjective and excess description. By eliminating the excess words, it would tighten your writing thus improving the readability. There was an over use of commas, hyphenated words, and you often repeated yourself but restating information for instance ‘reluctantly Cornelius agrees with Gordrick and accepts the invitation.’ Despite you have already informed the reader they were attending you repeat the fact by stating his acceptance of the invitation. However, there is a vast improvement in your logic making it easier to follow your film.…

Unfortunately, while the idea is good, the story doesn’t fully deliver the promise of the premise. The script would benefit from further development. The main concern about the presentation is the structure. The structure utilizes too many flashbacks, too many dreams, and transitions in time, even to five years later. It’s a very confusing timeline to follow.…
