Neural hearing loss occurs when the message from the inner ear to the brain becomes distorted. This type of hearing loss happens when the inner hair cells transfer the sound information to the sound nerve; no sound information is sent to the brain due to damage to the sound nerve. Central hearing loss occurs when there is nothing wrong with the cochlea. However, parts of the brain that receive the audio information is damaged, and therefore the sound never reaches the brain to perceive sound
