like ?platano? this food is not a normal banana is more larger and we cook it and add butter to give it flavor which taste amazing. We also do eat some foods that other cultures eat like mexican foods and with the mix of culture we get stereotyped. The most common thing i get when i tell people what my culture is they would be surprised like in 8th grade my teacher thought i was also mexican bc we look alike we were not.But with that too there comes racism in my life but i get it rarely bc most people think i look scary and are in a gang so they dont say much. But one day in my life i was with my mom and i guy told her to go back where she came from and what i did was laugh out loud bc i found it funny for some reason.Racism is part of my life but not generally

Racial/ethnic identity can be simple to say and complicated to understand at the same time. I know I obtain a solid foundation for my racial/ethnic identity, however that foundation grows stronger each day throughout life. I would describe myself as Black/African American without any hesitation. Our text Race and Racisms describes race as a "social construct, an idea we endow with meaning through daily interactions. " This idea has definitely been instilled in me specifically by my mother at an early age, to think for yourself, have an open mind, to acknowledge who I am and it 's place in society.…

A compelling idea, cultural identity is a concoction of elements made up of the beliefs a person absorbs from their cultural surroundings. Through my cultural identity I have learned to interpret and interact with the world around me. I often struggle with my own personal belief that individualism is more important than fitting in because I often find myself compromising my beliefs to try to fit in with my peers. Trying to maintain individuality and integrity are both ideas that I value, but they conflict with my desire to fit in with those around me. Invisible Culture Most struggles of cultural identity come from someone not being able to define their culture or not being accepted because of their multiculturalism, but my struggle with cultural identity is different—I don’t know how to define mine. I am caucasian, and I can trace my roots to ancestors that are German, French, Dutch, Irish, and pretty much anywhere in Europe, but I don’t know specific amounts. My parents were both born in the U.S. and my mom has lived here her whole life, while my dad was an “army brat” and has lived all over the world. My family has no cultural traditions that we celebrate and while food is very important to me, we don’t cook recipes from our culture.…
