I thought the percentages of one-parent homes today far outweigh the percentages in the late 1800s. I didn't really take into account the amount of deaths a family had because of anything from the war to diseases and famine. It seems pretty logical why there would be single-parent homes. The reasons widely differ in why there are single-parent homes now. I believe parents just are not mentally and financially ready to be parents and leaving their spouse to raise the children
