I decided to go with “The Basket Case” character, Allsion Reynolds from the movie, though not as verbal as the other characters her role amongst her peers is significant within the structure of the group. Initial impressions suggest that she may be out of touch with reality as demonstrated by some of her behavior such as the lack of her responses toward her peers though she is obviously very attentive to what is going on around her. Such behaviors as using her dandruff to simulate a snow fall and the concoction that she created as a sandwich by throwing away the meat and then adding Pixie sticks and Captain Crunch cereal to her sandwich suggest a different mentation than one would have expected. As the character developed in the movie it appears…

The Past is Preeminent Past experience is the only driving force behind a person’s actions and personality, as they are mentally and emotionally shaped by what has happened in previous years. The past can positively or, more commonly, negatively affect a person as they discover who they are and what they think, similar to the main character in Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns. Hosseini vividly illustrates through the progression of the main character Mariam’s life how acutely her past contributes to her personality later on as a person and guides her in the discovery of who she is.…

Even though Clinical Mental Health Counselors get their state structural training and the rent the seas program which allows them to have field experience prior to creating their own counseling agency are probably employment, there are times that counselors forget the basics in a sense. My justification behind that statement is that though the counselor did understand and present a wonderful opening statement about allowing the client to feel comfortable in their new environment, he still did not respect the client’s feelings in a sense. As a professional I think he took the negative comments, and made him a boat out one for while he was working with Bill. Though I am not I can’t clinical mental health counselor yet, I do have training in open…

My client Pauletta Patterson is the main character in the Black Entertainment Television series Being Mary Jane. Throughout three seasons and thirty episodes many people viewed Mary Jane’s life as successful because of her financial stability. Many times when someone is financially stable everything else in his or her life is overlooked. Success to Mary Jane is not financial stability but being loved, she prefers to be married and have children as opposed to having a higher socioeconomic status. Simply put personal financial stability does not equate to a successful life.…

Client perception between the counsellor and client is also another crucial aspect in counselling. This can cause problems in counselling as the client has to aware of the counsellors unconditional positive regard and empathy towards them. If the client is unable to establish this unconditional positive regard and empathy being displayed by the counsellor then this may result in them being unwilling and reluctant in being fully honest and truthful with the counsellor and thus hinder both the communication and the therapeutic alliance between them (Rogers, 1957;…

This time gave me an opportunity to undertake reflective listening through active listening which according to Rogers (1975) in his “client-centered” therapy argues that it encourages the client to share the information in more depth than if I was only asking directive questions. This enabled me to gain information when the client brought out the underlying issues including those that I had not thought about. The active listening also improved my relationship with the client since I was able to express acceptance by avoiding any expression of disagreement or judgement thus making him open up and also trust me as his couselor. This method also left me with enough time to explore and diagnose the issue thus noting the new ways of approach to the…
