It is a treatment that provides a quick and effective solution in helping to reduce the look of facial lines and wrinkles. Over time, aging, combined with stress, worry, and everyday environmental factors can take their toll on your face making it look older than it should.

Botox treatments were first approved in 1990. They are given by way of injection to smooth out the wrinkles of the forehead, neck and face which may appear as you age. Botox is made up of a protein substance produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, the same toxin that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called botulism. With Botox treatments, sensation loss to the nerves will not occur. It will only affect the muscle movement in the area at the injection site. This kind of treatment not only offers relief from wrinkles but has also proven effective to help control excessive sweating and eyelid twitching..

As with any other drugs, there are side effects in having Botox treatments. Slight bruising may occur around the injection site, and occasionally if a blood vessel is damaged, a patient may get "black eye" bruising. Using an ice pack before and after the Botox injections will help minimize any bruising. A temporary drooping of the eyelid may also occur and it can be minimized if injections to the forehead are limited to the upper and central areas only. This is also beneficial because it lifts the eyebrow and reduces any drooping skin around the upper eyes which yields a more youthful, wider-eyed look.

Botox should not be used by everyone. This list includes pregnant and breastfeeding women or anyone who suffers any kind of disease that affects the nerves or the muscles.
