What YOLO means to me What if you had been told you only had 6 months to live? What would you do? How would you spend it? Would you right your wrongs? Would you have regrets? What YOLO means to me is actually living every single day rather than just sitting there getting through the day. YOLO sums up living every day as though it's your last. And living this way ends up with a humble way to look back on your amazing life and adventurous decisions. YOLO is almost a philosophy telling everyone that it is not worth it in the end to look back and just simply think about the decisions you could have taken but then didn't.

From going to Antarctica and seeing the teals and purples sweep across the sky to sleeping in a hammock 30ft up in the Oregon rainforest. Skydiving out of a plane, bungee jumping off a bridge, giving back, and paying back those who gave their all to you. Things from trying a new food to a new religion/lifestyle. These are all examples and ideas on how to live each and every single day trying or doing something new with yourself. Something to occupy each and every single day in a positive way. Of course we could go about each and every day sitting at home watching tv listening to others stories or from people around the

The universal meaning of “cease the day”, “do what your heart desires” “try something new!” “it's important to have fun in life”. But YOLO almost goes into a deeper meaning. You only live once. This expresses and gives the message of every single day is a new day and we must choose wisely what we do so that we can look back and not have to think about the chances we didnt take or if we have regrets. YOLO means to me that you should be doing something new every single day no matter what it is, or doing something for yourself or one another to affect the past, present and mostly the future in positive ways. Even if it's not in a positive way it may be a good life lesson that can teach you and help you for the better in the

With the term “YOLO” (You only live once) comes a slippery slope of defective decisions; the term serves as a social excuse for premeditated mistakes. Taking calculated risks striving to prosper, and knowingly and recklessly making substandard decisions couldn’t be more disparate. “YOLO” and Carpe Diem are but distant cousins, with completely divergent connotations. Even considering “YOLO” a philosophy remains a mere overstatement.…

Have you spent your life on things that make it worth living? Are you simply existing in this life or are you living in it? Anna Quindlen in her Commencement Address at Villanova College forces us to ask ourselves these questions as she leaves long lasting imprints in the minds of the attendees and graduates. Quindlen’s use of rhetorical devices, personal stories, and quotes helps her express her main points, that one must make their life worth living and that life should never be taken for granted because there are so many things to live for. Throughout Qundlen’s speech she uses all three of the appeals to create a connection with her audience.…

Meaningful experiences are not always happy. “A trip to one’s birthplace may well be meaningful; a visit to an amusement park is unlikely to be so” (Wolf 3). According to Wolf, to live a meaningful life, it is important to acknowledge that we are not the center of the universe; that in the grand scheme of things, our lives are meaningless, and plan a life filled with activities and projects that are non-subjectively worthwhile (Wolf 10). This way, we can at least have some meaning in our lives.…

Of the many meaningful aphorisms Morrie Schwartz taught Mitch, there is one in particular that I feel I can relate to on a personal level. It reads: “so many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…

People should celebrate each day simply because they are alive. Kenko states that people do not enjoy life because they do not fear death, and do not realize how imminent death is. Therefore, realizing the preciousness of life is invaluable, and is well worth the cost of an ox. In another essay, Kenko shares a story about how he attended a horse race at the Kamo Shrine, where he notices a priest sleeping on a branch. The people around him laugh at the priest, calling the priest an idiot for sleeping so peacefully in such a dangerous spot.…

He assumed that we are rather like dogs, tied to the moving chariot. The leash is not long enough to let us go wherever we want, but it still gives us some freedom. This freedom is based on human beings’ ability to influence their perception. Pessimistic approach defends us from disappointment.…
