African Americans are often discriminated based on their race. Early on in the article, journalist Brandon Levy stated that because he was mugged by four teenage African American boys, he still feels uncertain around all other African American men. Levy, along with many people, have a bias that men and women who look alike act alike. This assumption could be because of the amygdala which is a part of the brain that subconsciously makes face based assumptions. For example, when people see an unfamiliar African American face they are more likely to show a negative bias based on the color of their skin.
