Personal Narrative: My Interview With Lydia Werner

Improved Essays
I interviewed Lydia Werner. She is 82 years old and from Germany. Mrs. Lydia was raised in Germany till she was 25 years old. She moved to Melbourne Florida with her husband in the year 1959. She got married at the age of 21 in Germany. I was happy that she was willing to let me interview her. A friend of mine said that I could contact his mother in law because she is over 70 years old. I am thankful for that. This assessment pushed me to get out of my comfort zone with talking to older people because I thought older people didn’t really like talking to younger people.

In Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The Birds,” the idea of feminism can be said to have a strong impact and importance throughout the film. This idea is brought out from Hitchcock’s depiction of the women in the film. It can be said that Hitchcock is against feminism from his metaphorical use of the bird attacks to punish the women for stepping into male realms. In the analysis of feminism among the female characters, I will use mainly the characters Melanie Daniels and Lydia Brennan since they are the main ones in showing a contrast relating to feminism. To make clear, feminism can be simply thought of as the idea of women being equal to men on social, political, and economic grounds.…

It is important for a young woman, especially one of Lydia's uncertain future, to marry decently; in the Bennet household, marriage is held as the uttermost goal by the lady of the house, if not her husband. And Mr. Bennet, if he has any true qualms about Lydia's behavior, does nothing to stop it. When Elizabeth confronts him later in the novel about his cultivation of Lydia's alleged frivolity by allowing her to go to Brighton, Mr. Bennet brushes her concerns off by saying, "Lydia will never be easy till she has exposed herself in some public place or other" (Austen 158). Elizabeth continues to protest his decision, arguing that her own respectability will be negatively affected by Lydia's conduct. Mr. Bennet only says that wherever she and…

The novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is a social commentary on money, marriage, and rank. Austen juxtaposes multiple characters throughout the novel to comment on human behavior. The author’s employment of diction, dialogue, detail, and omniscient narration highlights significant differences between characters, thus arguing that being overly concerned with beauty and wealth causes people to be proud, vapid, and intimidated by wealth. Austen employs dialogue, diction, and irony to show that Mr. Collins is too prideful.…
