WWI is known as one of the most bloodiest wars to ever occur in human history because of the strategy of trench warfare and the amount of soldiers involved with the war. This could’ve been prevented if there wasn’t nationalism, militarism, and alliances. These three reasons are the root causes of why WWI even occurred in the first place. Nationalism and militarism is what started pride in people of many countries that wanted to be the best and the alliances created a huge keg of powder ready to blow up any second with just a spark needed.

Germany had an extreme belief in militarism mainly because of its predominant state Prussia and a man named Otto Von Bismarck. Bismarck is the man who believed that only through “iron” and “blood” could Germany be a great power. During the unification of Germany They were able to fight and crush the Austro-Hungarians and French in separate wars and became a feared military power (Germany practically reunited with war so militarism is strong within the country). Britain had a strong belief in militarism also to help protect its spot in being the dominant power. Britain had many colonies throughout the age of imperialism, about 25% of the globe’s land mass was owned by Britain. It was difficult for a country to contain all this land and the populations in them, so Britain started influencing the idea of militarism to keep its empire in check. Both Germany and Britain found themselves in an arms race because of militarism too try and become the most armed and technologically advanced country. Also when conflicts started to arise instead of trying to make peaceful negotiations Germany thought it best to try and fight through it so they could prove they were the stronger
