Samurai and Knights What were the characteristics of the Samurai and Knight culture? The Samurai were part of a warrior culture that was unique to Japan. The samurai followed a code of honor called Bushido. Bushido emphasized loyalty and honor over all others to their nobles. The samurai was to show respect to their nobles. Zen Buddhism greatly influenced Bushido and the beliefs of the samurai. The samurai were employed by Japanese nobles called daimyo as soldiers to the same family for generations. Daimyos were the feudal lords who would fight each other. Daimyos provided military service to receive land.
