What welding type is favored above another? Instead of underwater welding, I should focus on Mig welding. They both are used all over and have different qualities that appeal to people in their own ways. These qualities have positives about the job, drawbacks about the job, different opinions, as well as comparisons about each that can be viewed differently by each person.
Underwater welding is a different type of welding for me. It has many benefits that draws me to be an underwater welder. To be an underwater welder, there is no age limit. Along with the age limit, all I need is a welding certificate and to become a commercial diver (“Taking The Plunge”). Underwater welding is only a part of the job. I would also be a commercial diver due to being hired by “leading diving contractors”. Mig welding is different for many reasons such as an average salary of $15,000; whereas underwater welding has an average of $52,000. Another difference is that underwater welding salary can change with each job while Mig doesn’t. The next difference is that Underwater welding changes location with each job while Mig stays stationary. While they are each different, they have some similarities. One similarity is that both have various risks while welding such as burns or decompression sickness. They are also similar because they also have a set setting, direct current (DC), that doesn’t change. Mig welding is simple and easy to learn without any experience. Underwater is hard to learn while they need a great physical condition and a diving certification that can take years to get. Comparing this data, it is easy to see that they each have their own benefits and drawbacks; however, Mig is better due to most people not willing to take years to prepare for a job that might not work
